Is the ejector XD's weakest link?

After a 'micro analysis' of my new 45c , I noticed that it looks like the ejector is made of a cast metal. All of my other autos (Glock,Sig,HK,Kimber) are made of forged steel (or possibly stamped). This is one part that takes quite a beating. Will this be the piece I have to worry about breaking? Please tell me I'm wrong!

Off the top of my head, I can't recall ever reading of an instance on here where someone had a broken ejector. Though I would assume it could happen.

I'm gonna tell you you're wrong!

A few people have broken ejectors by using modified Beretta magazines (which tend to be too long), but I don't know of any broken ejectors from using factory magazines.

I think we tend to see more broken extractors then ejectors. I just had mine replaced a few weeks ago. Another forum member had his break just after mine.

No. The lack of factory OEM parts including the ejector, is the XD's weakest link.

Just curious, did the "claw" part break or the "arm" of the extractor?

I have manually put a round in the chamber then let the slide slam forward. The ejector is still intact.

I wouldn't expect that to have any effect on the ejector but it's sure hard on extractors. I did it for many years with SIGs and Berettas but my FFL Range owner buddy had a fit when he saw me do it.

He demonstrated how an extractor has to bounce over the rim of the case and explained how many extractor jobs he has had due to that. That's good enough for me.

Now, I load the 1st round off the mag, pull the mag to top it up and then replace it. I know it's not as daring but it's safe.
