heat and accuracy

Hi all, new and first post - looking forward to learning quite a bit! Using XD9, 4in version.

Been shooting a while and entered steel plate shoot this weekend. One round, I shot 4x16rd magazines. On the last magazine, I couldn't hit anything. I'm not a bad shot, not great, but not bad. One set I knocked down 30 targets in 32 shots, for example.

On the round in question, it was on the 4th mag, no matter now slow I shot, I couldn't hit. I was tired, yes. My hands were stressed, yes. But, golly, even large targets were kicking my butt.

So, the question....... 60 shots, bang bang bang...... can the barrel heat and warp? Most of my misses were low, hence the warping theory. Any thoughts appreciated.

Not just after 60 shots, no. Probably not after MANY more than that either. The barrels are tough.

My guess is by the time you got to that last set, with the excitement of being in a match and shooting all the previous rounds, you were anticipating recoil. I know when my hands get tired, my accuracy suffers.

Practice practice practice.

Matt

I don't think that that would affect your accuracy to that degree. I was at the local indoor range the other day putting rounds downrange at a pretty rapid pace. At one point you couldn't touch the takedown lever (where my support hand thumb naturally falls) it was just too hot. My groups stayed nice and tight. 260 rounds of as close to back to back fire as I could get, and it just kept putting them where I pointed them.

Welcome to the forum, newskate!

I would have to agree with Matt as to the shooting. Best of luck and enjoy.

Thanks all - I can see myself anticipating the shot, and/or losing concentration. I'll look for this next time out, and work practice to stay on target.

I was reading Brian Enos' forum last night. If you are not properly hydrated it affects your vision.

I think this happens to me all the time.
