Fat guy concealment

I love my new XD Compact. I bought it mostly as a range gun, but I'd love to have the option to use it as a CCW piece once in a while.

My main CCW is a Kel-Tec that I just throw in my pocket. The XD, of course, is too big for most pockets. Except for my deep pockets on my cargo shorts that I wear on the weekends...which leads to question one: Are there any pocket holsters for an XD Compact? I'd like something to hide the print of the gun and to protect the trigger...

I've tried a lot of other ways to conceal the XD and none of it really works on me. I'm a big guy, and IWB is physiologically impossible. OWB is okay, but most of my shirts are just not long enough to full conceal it, I feel.

I tried an Uncle Mike's shoulder holster I bought for my Kel-Tec, and though it worked I've never liked it since it's extremely tight and the gun is almost right up in my arm pit. It can't adjust anymore...like I said, I'm a big guy!

I've even given one of those "belly holsters" a try, but they also don't appear to phsyiologically work well with my current body shape.

So, anyone know of some shoulder holsters that can be adjustable to a larger guy for the XD Compact? Any, how about any pocket holsters for the XD Compact?

Thanks for your help.

PS. I'm working on a weight reduction program to avoid these problems in the future, but these things don't really happen overnight.

I haven't started to CCW yet, but when I do I'd like to know what carry options and holsters work well for us guys with love handles and big guts.

im not completly sure but i think desantis makes the nemisis pocket holster for the xd , im a pretty big guy myself and i use either a fanny pack or a iwb holster to carry guns as large as a g19 with no problem

I just bought a Coronado blacl leather vest that has a holster built inside inbetween leather in the vest and it holds a pistol without printing. It is very good quality and heavy duty and I love it and it works well with jeans and t-shirt but it does make you look a little Bikerish but I kinda dress that way anyways.

But also Coronado also make safari vests too and I am going to get one of them too. I'm not going to wear it every day but it's one more way I can carry concealed and hide it.

Cool

otaku: I would think in the climate your in a fanny pack would work well since it's readily accepted as a mode of dress in Fl. secondly by the rigs you have described you are trying the bottom end of the holster chain and that makes it dificult to conceal as well. How long have you been carrying??? In my exp. ( over 30 yrs of carry ) nothing beats a first class holster and belt, I'm 5'11" and have been as high as 290 lbs. so I have ( had ) love handles etc. I'm currently in the 250 area and still have the beer belly and handles, last night we went to dinner and I had my XD service in a Sparks VM II and it maybe makes a bump once in awhile but no printing I was wearing jeans ( normal size ) a tee shirt ( tucked in ) and a button down shirt as cover with a couple of buttons on the bottom buttoned. If you are new to carrying then you have all the feeling that everyone can see YOUR GUN WHEN ACTUALLY NO ONE EVEN NOTICES.
some more info on your size will help give you some options.

Smartcarry/Thunderwear is also an option... I like it as a last resort, as opposed to leaving it at home.

I'm big, and I'm waiting on my Supertuck IWB... Any week now!

Try a holster from Jerry H. I have four rigs from him, they are awesome.

You big guys have it easy!!!! Carry at 4:30 (haha) and you'll be fine. Those love handles will cover a really big gun. When I was 170, I had a hard time with concealing stuff. Now, I don't have that problem. Just more proof that Little Debbie is pro-gun.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Maybe I am doing it wrong and just need some longer shirts. As far as jackets and other concealment garments go, most aren't made to my size (about a 58" waist and 4X sized shirts). I've tried the bellyband/SmartCarry type holsters, but they also don't seem to work very well. I may not be using them correctly, but I need my belt to be pretty tight to keep my pants on and, to be honest, there's not enough slack in my belt to get the XD Compact through. I'd have to go to a looser belt and, well, risk my pants falling down :X

I'm not fat, I'm just big boned!!! Me too!!! 5'9" & 230lbs. This has always been on my mind of how best to conceal. Even for the bigger guys, who you would think it would be easier, some options that are good are truly ruled out. Oh well. We're all in this together. Thanks for the great info.
