Question Lazer sights?

Just how accurate are lazer sights? This had probably been discussed numerous times but I'm new at this. Recently purchsed an XD40 Tactical in .40S&W and am quite excited. My main purpose for this pistol is shooting dropping plate. Now my eyes aren't any too hot up close and I need help in the sighting department. Is a lazer sight really accurate enough for paper punching and dropping plate? I have looked in the sponsers forum and saw a sight called Suresight. Would this fit the bill for my needs? Also looking at the Burris FastFire holo sight? Anyone care to lead a XD noob into a little sighting enlightment?

suresights are iron sights to replace your three dot sights

for laser sights, most usually go with tlr-2 or mx6... fairly accurate when you zero, with that said, if you zero for 5 yrds, but try to test accuracy at 25 yards, it will be off... bullet travels in a incline then decline path while the laser is straight.

Laser devices won't make you a good shooter if you aren't one now. They are a tool in the hands of a good shooter but they won't make you a better shooter if you haven't mastered the basic concepts of accuracy. Put trigger control at the top of that list.

The others have covered the trajectory issues with the m6 (which is what I use). If somone mentioned it, I didn't see it, the laser does not work well in bright daylight, even at close range. I have read that the green lasers work better in bright light but I have not tried it so I don't know for sure.

One of the guys I work with has a Lasermax laser which replaces the guide rod. He zeros at 25 yards and the difference up close is negligible as the laser is much clsoer to the bore with the Lasermax. For plate work this is the one I would consider.

Not true. A laser is a fantastic tool to correct common problems like flinching and shooting low-left. The laser dot will make it very obvious if you are flinching or otherwise manipulating the gun. There was a guy with a laser at the range last night working on this. I could see his dot jerk low left, the hole appear low left, and then the dot went back to center. By the end of the night he was doing a good job holding the dot steady. If you still want to focus on the front sight, you can sight the laser in high. Aim normally focusing on the front sight, and you will still see the red dot (hopefully) holding steady above the point of aim in the background.

I highly recommend an el cheapo laser if all you want to use it for is help with practice.

I see shooters on a regular basis who are shooting with laser sights and hitting everywhere except where they expect but, most often, low or low and left. I don't like walking up to someone and pointing out their errors, I make errors myself, but I dislike letting them make mistakes that can be corrected.

Sometimes I'll just say "your trigger is probably too heavy" and they'll ask why I said that. That gives me an opening to point out that the laser dot takes a dive everytime they fire. Most of the time, they hadn't noticed but many have mentioned as they paid their range fees that they can now see it happening and are working to avoid it.
