XD Ten Rd Mags: "New" factory vs. "Old"?
I got two new 10-rd mags with my new XD-40. They have three witness holes in the back. I ordered four more factory 10-rd .40 mags, and they have about seven witness holes.
The shells look similar otherwise. Followers and springs are identical. PROBLEM: The "with the gun" mags follower does not rise nearly as high, barely catches the slide stop (both do it). All the "new" four have the follower rise much higher. It also looks like the rounds ride lower in the "three hole" pair, and feeds a little rougher chambering up. The feed lip section is a few thousandths narrower in those two. Any body else notice a switch in the factory ten round .40 mags? |

Sorry, haven't gotten any ten rounders since they lifted the ban for the free world, and the ten rounders I have are form the old days.

I noticed that also....
My xd 40 came with the 3 witness holes.. I ordered 2 12rd mags and they are much much better. The 10rd (3 witness holes) wont lock the slide back and have a couple FTFeed. Im fixin to call SA.

Anybody bend the feed lips or apply any other kind of cure to the cranky ones? |

Take the feed lips and open them up to match the 12 round mags. This should fix your problem. I think they make a universal body to fit more than one size round 9mm,357sig and 40s&w. Then all they have to do is mark them according to the caliber used.

I wish I could just swap out the two clunkers. As to a "universal body"? It's possible, Beretta 92 (9mm) and 96 (.40) mage shells are IDENTICAL. The followers are very slightly diifferent, almost imperceptible. They work for either calibers. I don't think XD mags are universal shells because the feed lip spacing on the .40 shell is too wide for 9mm, and the 9mm rounds don't hold securely in them (IMO) |

I read this earlier today, and checked out my 10 rounders at lunch. They are the 3-hole type. I've never had any trouble with them. They were the 2 that I got with my gun. I bought it used at a gun show a little over a year ago, and it only had the two 10 rounders with it.
