Barrel Cleaning - Brush Needed?

I've cleaned my gun a few times, and am familiar with cleaning it, but the cleaning brush that came with my XD-9 will not fit into the barrel. I've tried two separate times, and even forced it, but it would not go. Could it be possible Springfield placed the incorrect brush into my case? I don't currently have another brush, and have routinely just cleaned with Eezox. I initially "treated" my gun with it, and it seems to make it resistant to fouling and contamination. Smell is not great, but I use a fan to dissipate the fumes. I've never used a brush yet, and my barrel seems to be shiny and clear of any contaminants. I only shoot between 85-120 rounds between cleanings. If I my run patches through multiple times, and they eventually come out clean, do I need to worry about using a brush? Just want to be sure that I'm taking care of my barrel properly. Thanks in advance for your help.

THe brush that came with my 9 is the same size as the one that came with the 45. Yes it is quite large, but it will fit in there. Needless to say I don't use it much as I have other brushes. Now and then it would be a good idea to run a brush down it, but I do not every time.

You need the bronze brass bristle brush (with looped end) that will take out the lead deposits out of the grooves inside the barrel. The plastic bristle brush that came with your XD doesn't do any good. You will see the difference once you use it...

+1 on the bore snake. They rock. One goes down the barrel at the range right before the hollowpoints go back in.

Nice to keep the gun clean and nice to be able to prove that your gun is unfired, should the need arise.

Ok... stupid question... what is involved with using a bore-snake compared with a regular cleaning.

apply generous hoppes to bristley part, pull it through the barrel, and drink a bee...errr...iced tea.
