Mag Problem?

First off, I will admit that I am still very new to this gun. I seem to be having problems with the magazine. When I release the mag, it does not pop out. It moves out ~1/2" and sticks slightly. I then have to pull it out with my other hand. It also does this with both the short and ext mag I have. I don't remember it doing this when I first got it. Since then I have shot 150 rounds and disassembled it 4 times and cleaned/oiled it. Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone suggest something to try?

Thanks in advance,

Jason

Check the mag well for some type of de-bree or burrs

How stiff is your mag release? One design flaw I have noticed it that the inner guts to the mag release are open for dirt, soot and grim to enter. I can forsee this to be a problem around the 2-3K mark if you dont clean your gun.

Take some CLP and squirt the hell out of that area if it feels stiff when you hit your mag release or mag catch.

my SC does this after i've been carrying it for about 2 weeks without cleaning or firing. dust, dirt crap get in the magwell and just clog it up. i just clean the mags and put a light coat of oil on them and they pop free just like new

Dousing in CLP may not be the best thing to do. It can pick up grime and grit. Field strip the gun and put a few drops of whatever solvent you use. Then blast the area with some canned air, carb and choke cleaner, or whatever blasting scrubber you want. Wait for it to dry then a few drops of lube to coat the parts and prevent corrosion. Coating your mags in Blue Wonder Armadillo will help lube the mags without gathering dirt and de-bree!

Of course clean it out afterwards. my bad!

Be carefull with the cans of air though as to not hold them upside down. They turn to liquid when turned up side down and it can leave moisture in the area.

One of my 4 mags for the .45 compact was doing something very similar. I followed advice given me to lightly spray the out side of the mag and the inside of the grip with a spray gun oil with teflon (I used Rem Oil as I had it handy) and let it sit for 10-15 min and then gently wipe it down. The sitting time I was told would let the teflon bond with the polymer in the grip and the stainless. I just did it to all my mags. Now I don't know how much of that was true and how much was BS but I do know that they all felt more slick afterwards and after 200 rds or so today using the problem mag 5-6 times I didn't have any hangups.

Thank you for the quick replies. I will add that the gun is currently clean. I have also tried cleaning and lubing the mag and mag well to no avail. I believe it to be something with the mag well as both mags have the same problem. I currently have it apart right next to me and I do notice that the 2 raised sections on the back side of the mag well do seem to have some small burrs. Nothing that seems to be too large but it could be enough to make it slide in and release stiff.

On a side note, do the XD's come with owner's manuals or something similar? I bought the gun used and called Springfield to see if I could get one and they said no problem. It came very fast but when I opened it, all that was in there was some stickers, patches, and a brochure for the XD and SA's other guns. Wondering if they did not understand what I was asking for or there was a mix up on their end?

There is an owner's manual but I didn't find it very comprehensive. It is available online (adobe) through SA's website http://www.springfield-armory.com

Click on the XD section at the opening screen, and when it loads it has a list of the models on the left side and at the bottom of the list has an option to download the manual.
