XD 16 round 9mm mags
I did a quick search, but I didn't see any other threads on the topic so I am not sure how common this is. I bought a 16 round mag from pistolgear (always a great experience btw) and I sat down to load it for the first time tonight. I set out 16 rounds plus an extra one for the chamber. I was while watching TV and before I knew it all 17 rounds were gone! I unloaded the mag just to be sure, but for some reason my 16 round mag holds 17 rounds. Anyone else with this issue? Is there a reason (maybe reliability) that I shouldn't load that 17th round?

This does happen, depends on the spring more than anything else. If you can load 17 rounds and have the gun cycle as required, there is no problem. In some cases, the 17th round does not sit low enough in the mag, allowing the round to feed properly.
OS PS: Thanks for the kind words.

I can get 17 rounds into all my XD mags, but you cannot get them to lock into the mag well when the slide is forward without gorrilla like strength, if even then.
I'm willing to bet shaving a tad off the bottom of the follower would fix that problem, however I'm not sure it's worth it for the 1 additional round. Summer is coming up, so I maybe tinkering around out in the garage a bit more. I just might give it a try

If you want more round get an XD40 mag and squeeze the lips together so the opening is a little less than 9mm. That should get you an extra 2 to 3 rounds.

It will flatten the spring. The mag shell has room for the spring to go into. Crushing ths spring will shorten it's life. |
