Should I trade in my XD SC for USP Compact?

I was at www.ohioccwforums.org and found a post that asks, "What is your 2nd favorite handgun?"

I have a 9mm XD SC as my CHL gun. I realized that it is my SECOND favorite gun. My favorite gun is my HK USC .40. After posting my 2nd favorite gun. I began to realize, if it's my 2nd favorite, why am I carrying it?

2 things came to mind. 1) Cost. I paid $389 for the XD SC NEW from Gander Mountain when it was on sale in Canton, OH. I haven't seen prices like that in a VERY long time. My UPS is 13 years old and I paid $550 for it NEW. A great price at the time, but to get a USP compact as a carry, it's going to cost me $700.00+. 2) Wear. My XD SC already has a lot of hoster wear. I don't want holster wear on my USP .40 as it's not a dedicated carry pistol. If I get a USP compact, I won't mind holster wear as it would be my CHL weapon.

What do you guys think I should do? Trade in my SC with nightsights, mags and holster for a downpayment on a HK USP compact or keep the XD until I can afford a USP Compact (which may be December.)

keep the gun and keep using it. when funds permit, consider buying another pistol.

from the title i thought you were going to trade your XD straight up for a USP. in which case the answer is definately yes. however, i would keep the gun and buy the USP when funds arise.

but compact USPs are awesome. i would love to buy a USP9 compact. they are sweet.

Remember, the USP Compact is just about the same size as the XD Service. If you prefer the small size of the XD Sub-Compact, then you should keep what you have. If you think you can carry a USP Compact as well as your your XD Sub-Compact, then I would sell the XD to fund the purchase. But that is just me.

I posted over on the other place, but I thought I should mention that I was in this same position recently and decided to keep my XD and buy the HK too. Good choice for me.

Your talking about two very different firearms.

My favorite firearm might be my Bushmaster AR.. doesn't mean I'm goign to carry it

In the past my favorite hand gun was a HK USP 45 (fullsize stainless) and it was also my carry gun.

Issue number one and why I stopped carring a USP, While very reliable it isn't as reliable as my XD9.. in fact my XD9 has NEVER had a malfuction, including with a few hundreds rounds of wolf down the pipe and couple hundred hollowpoints. I could never get thru a session without 1-2 malfuctions with my USP's (I've owned as many as 3 at one time of 40 and 45). Inevitably after 6 mags or so there would be something, usually a FTF... I couldn't shoot wolf thru any of the .45's. Not that i shoot alot of it, but it underscores the reliability issues.

I still have on USP 45 in stainless n the collection which I'll be keeping, but I won't be buying anymore. The XD is a better gun than the USP, IMO.

I've owned enough USPs and XDs and have enough friends who them both to definatively say that without reservations.

I will qualify that the USPs will still be shooting 10,000 rounds later... I don't know how great the XD's will be after 10k rounds. I don't personally know anyone with more than 2-3k rounds thru their XD's and my carry is only at 1k.

I wanted a 1911 type gun and traded my XD9SC for a Taurus PT1911 on a spure of the moment purchase thinking I would just carry my XD45. I absolutely love the PT1911 and the XD45 but three weeks later I went back to my gun dealer and bought my XD9SC back. I was lucky it was still there. I have had and do have many guns that I really like some more than the XD9SC but nothing carries and conceals as well. If all you want the USP Compact for is carry I would say you have one best carry guns available. I was lucky and got mine back for what I was given on trade in, you may not be so lucky. Spend a little extra and get the XD refinished if it is a concern, otherwise save up for the USP and give it an extended test if it proves better than the XD then sell the XD.

I have an XD Service and a USPc, both chambered in 9mm; I carry the USPc, and have turned the XD into a project gun.

If you look around, you can find a good deal...I found mine for 600 "used" (had 125 rounds through it). I put more than that through it on the first day at the range.

I suppose the bottom line is "Try them both, go with what feels best for you".
