Should I send it back to Springfield?

I shot my XD 9 Service and my XD 45 Tactical off a rest Sunday and the XD 45 groups were much tighter than the groups from the 9. I started inspecting the 9 and found that slide is loose (less than 1/64"? movement). Comparing it to my 45, the front of the slide on the 45 is tight and the back had some play but less then the 9. If I send the gun to Springfield will they fix it under warranty? Should I just sell it and get a 9 Tac?

I would compare it to another XD 9 and call SA about it see what they say. How long have you had it and what is the estimated round count? I'm not sure how much a loose slide will effect hand gun accuracy. I've shot old 1911's .45's that rattled and were accurate.

My XD9 is also a bit loose at the front, and a little less so at the rear. I gotta wonder if that's just an allowable tolerance for this type of polymer gun?

What kind of groups were you shooting? I dont use my XD9 for comps or anything so I dont need it to be dead on accurate, just as long as I can place all 15 either center mass or in the head thats good enough for me.

If you can hit what you are aiming at with the SC, don't worry about it.
In fact guns that are tighter may shoot smaller groups, but are less reliable.

My off the rest groups are about 3" at 10 yds with my 45 Tac and about 6-8" with my 9 Service at the same range. I know it is a service gun but I like to shoot paper.

Is the 9 new? Maybe you just need to get adjusted to the gun. I am more/less accurate with some XD's compared to other XD's. I wouldn't go sending it back until you are sure it is the gun and not you.

At ten yards?
I would be planning to send it in

My 9 service is also a little loose, but I haven't shot it off a rest. I would describe my looseness as about on par with yours so this is probably just part of the 9s design. Yet at 5yrds I can put a magazines worth in less than 3" off-hand and anywhere from 6-9" at 10yrds consistently. However, I do still have my first target with the gun and shot about a 9" group at 5yrds, so some of it is just getting used to the gun and eliminating habits/concentrating better. As a defense weapon I think this is more than adequate, and prefer reliable to accurate. I don't want a jam at the wrong time because the tolerances are to tight.

I am going to the range in the morning and will use a rest just to check it out at 5 and also 10yrds and let you know my results.
