Springer Trigger Kit: these results about right?

I got my new XD-40 Tactical. Trigger out of the box was about 6.5 to 7 pounds pull (measured about 2/3 way down the trigger) using a standard pull gauge.

Was also creepy and gritty.

INSTALLED Springer trigger kit:, results are:

Pull is shorter, less creep, feels better.

Pull weight is about 4.7 to 5# (about 2/3 way down the trigger face).

BTW: I measured the "pull only" force to pull the trigger and rotate the sear (striker not cocked) and got close to 4#. So, that's the force required to move against the trigger return spring, sear return spring, and firing safety plunger spring.

Is this the usual results?

Should I do anything else?

Do you guys usually polish off the black oxide coating in the critical "friction areas" of the trigger, sear and other components?

Thanks.

I've been reading up on these kits because I think I'm gonna end up getting one. I think the other thing that alot of people are doing is having their trigger bar tapped and the screw installed. This way they can adjust the overtravel properly and make it short. Scott recommends that you polish the sear on the contact surfaces, which is exactly what you mentioned.

Did any of you have to shave down the pin a little to get the new sear in? Mine was quite tight. That sounda about right, but 7lbs to start with, wow. I love mine by the way.

Do you mean the pin that holds the sear onto the frame? I you do, I wouldn't recomend shaving the pin, I would make the hole in the sear larger. The pin has to fit tight into the frame or it will walk out.

The hole in the stock sear was definitely larger than upgraded one. I used a small hammer and a little lube. You want it nice and tight.

I installed mine over the weekend and will be writing something up later this week after I've worked with it more. The bottom line so far is that the pretravel is substantially improved and the trigger breaks far more cleanly. The weight of your finger pretty much removes what is left of the pre-travel, so you are *almost* immediately engaging the sear.

You can not only decide how far you want to take it a step at a time with only the sear and then add the sear spring and/or the trigger spring. Or, totally reverse it back to stock. Then, if you want to take it farther, send your trigger bar off to get an overtravel stop screw.

As somebody else said in a different thread, I would be ordering the kit right away if I bought another XD.

More thoughts later...

Where can it walk too? As I recall, the slide is on both sides of the pin. The amount it needs to be reduced (if any) is miniscule.

It can walk out just enough to rub on the slide everytime its cycled. there's a reason that they make them large enough to fit snug.

I was just ribbing you.

Much less than half of the stock ones are even snug at all. As far as pin fitting it is again just the tiniest amount that may need to be fitted. Heck, if you chuck up the pin and just barely touch the center with paper, that is generally all you need if anything.

Everything fit perfectly in my XD357. I didn't need to modify anything.
