When I got my XD over a year ago I went through over a dozen holsters until my supertuck arrived in the mail. Once it did and I broke it in, I haven't even browsed the holster isle in the local shop since.

I own the Serpa from Black Hawk and I think it's an EXCELLENT holster, but I've commonly conceal carry and the supertuck from crossbreed has made it collect dust..

But for a fun competition and open carry while riding ATVs and other outside activites you would use the black hawk??
Just wondering before i rush into this and pay $45 for it.. but i do need a good holster for the match saturday.

I have 2 blackhawk serpa holders and they are great for the activities you are referring to. They hold the xd well and are very comfortable to wear as an all around setup. Plus they have many modular platforms that allow multiple carry locations. Go for it, you will be very happy.

I bought a Blackhawk SERPA holster for my XD .45 Compact. I have really liked it so far. I like the the fact that it has a positive locking system so I don't have to worry about the gun ever falling out of the holster, yet it draws slick as can be. I used it in my CCW and Advanced Handgun classes last weekend and even running the quick draw and fire course it came out smooth every time. With the SERPA system you don't have to tension the holster to the point that you have to really jerk out the pistol like you do with the XD Gear tension holster that came with it (although I do like that holster for certain pants/belts I wear).

The holster came with both a belt adapter and a paddle adapter. I immediately took off the belt adapter and have been using the paddle.

The paddle adapter has a hook on the paddle itself to catch on the inside of your pants and has two removable hooks on the portion that goes outside the belt to hook onto the belt and keep the holster secure. I took off the belt side hooks as I couldn't get the damn thing off my pants without removing my belt most of the time. It was overly secure for my purposes. The inside hook on the paddle has been sufficient to keep the holster in place and with certain pants that have more fabric along the inside of the waistband, I have trouble getting that holster off my pants without reaching inside my pants and pulling back the paddle to free the hook.

So, no, I haven't had any issues with it pulling out of my pants even on a bad draw when I have missed the release and had to relax and redraw. The inside hook has always caught and kept the paddle at least halfway inside my pants. Once you practice a bit, it is a very natural draw. If you are drawing your weapon properly (at least properly as I was taught) with your index finger along the frame under the slide, the release is right under your finger and as you clear the holster you have a proper grip on your firearm.

It fits the service and compact model perfectly as the end of the barrel is flush with the bottom of the holster. The tactical model sticks out ~ 1" as you would expect. I would not choose it for a subcompact. The subcompact barrel recesses ~ 1" inside the hard part of the holster and IMO defeats the point of the subcompact's smaller size as that full length of the holster still imprints. In the holster I have now tried out the following XD models on the range: Tactical .45, Service .45, Service 9mm, Compact .45 and Subcompact 9mm. They all fit in the holster about the same with the 9mm needed some additional tensioning to fit perfectly due to their slightly narrower frame and slide.

Hope that helps.

Ive ben reading everything i can about both the SERPA and the G-Code.

Come to the conclusion i like the G-Code better, although it doesnt have the sure nuff Rentention. I think it will suffice.

Thanks guys for your fast response!!!

the holster is great for open carry, competition, or concealed carry underneath a winter jacket. I like mine, it's comfortable. There is absolutely no way it will pull off your waistband when you draw the weapon.

Once you get the serpa retention set to your liking, you can get a pretty quick draw with it.
