point of impact low
I am using the point of aim method and at about 15 yards I have to aim a the head to hit the chest. The impact is about 5 or 6" lower than I'm aiming

actually I was planning on posting something along these lines today also. I went shooting n Sat. and found that everything I shot went low. Chalked it up to flinching at first, but then I found that if I just aimed a little higher, I could get it where I wanted to to begin with. Which seems opposite of the 6 o'clock aim that the XD manual describes. I really don't think that I'm consistently flinching.

If that dosen't work, try diffrent ammo, in some guns it makes a difference. If that dosen't work then the bad news is it sounds like the barrel might not be fit right, and it will have to go back to Springfield. It won't cost you anything, but your gun will be gone for awhile. |

According to the manual then yes these guns are sighted at 25 yards for 6 o'clock so if you're shooting closer than that your bullet will go low (especially with 115gr bullets).
Low isn't as much of a problem as low and left which usually indicates a trigger pull problem. |

I was using Point of aim, so shouldn't I be high if SA uses 6 o'clock sight picture?

I could be wrong though... and after a quick google search it appears I may be. Bullet may immediately begin decending after it is fired. Guess that's why I'm a XDTalk Newbie. |

Don't know if it would be much help, but hopefully some of the stuff I have tried may give you some ideas.
I have find that I hit low (maybe 4-5") and a hair right with my 40SC at 7 yards (distance for CCW class). The grouping is awesome and tight, but just not where I am aiming either. I can turn around and pick up my P89 9mm and hit the the mark at point of aim. I find that I have to cover up the target, aim more 12:00 instead of 6:00, and I can hit center. I re-read the manual and have spoken with SA about it. I have also talked with several good shooters and they said I may be "milking" the grip, but it only seems so with this pistol. I have tried playing with my grip and it hasn't gotten any better, in fact it started affecting my shots with the Ruger. I have also tried CCI, WWB, WWB HP, Independence, and Rangers ammo, anything from 155, 165 and 180 gr. I am not sold that it is me (shooter) as of yet, but if it is I can defintely say I am consistent with what ever I am doing. My groups prove it. I had 1 another guy shoot some rounds through it and he was hitting the same as I. I picked up his Sig 226 9mm and was spot on with it and never had shot a Sig before. I have even tried snap caps a few times to see if I am flinching, but I am looking solid. To me it is looking like my pistol and/or needing some fine tuning. Could be the same for your hardware as well. I am waiting to catch some of my buddies shooting again and let them have at it and see what comes out of that. You may want to really try stepping back and try looking at what you are doing consistently right/correct and see if you notice anything. Also try some other pistols and let some other shooters try yours. Maybe they might see you doing something. If no one else is available you could even set up a video camera and see if it captures anything. For me at this moment, I am chalking it up that I have to shoot some more rounds through it and get use to it. I didn't catch what caliber you are shooting, but this is my first .40 pistol and I may just need to get use to the "snap" of the SC. I have about 3 - 400 rounds and still shows the same issue. I will definitely shoot it more before I commit to sending it back to SA, that or trade it off for another pistol. Hope it helps, Last edited by jheady; 03-26-2007 at 06:26 PM. |

Taking a video camera to the range is great. Film yourself shooting and review it. You can spot and correct bad habits. If you are new to shooting you may be pushing the barrel down to compensate for the recoil.
My wife does this until she gets about 50 rounds down range (she is new to handguns). FYI, any guys breaking into my house you were warned!!!!
