Brian, before you go out and spend a lot of money on holsters like I did, seriously decide how you are going to carry. I got all wrapped up with the IWB and blew close to $300 on two quality iwb holsters. That was three years (36 months) ago and they have been sitting on a shelf for the last 35 months. I can't stand to carry IWB.

Save youself a lot of time and money and go with an OWB. Lot cheaper and a lot more comfortable.

Not to disregard Vincent's high regard for OWB, but everyone has different preferences, and everyone is built differently. There are plenty here that carry daily with an IWB and have no problems.

Do you know anyone from whom you can borrow a holster? It might help.

I read a comment on here once, where a guy said everyone ended up with a drawer full of holsters, while trying to find what worked. I thought "what a load of crap". I now have a drawer full of holsters. Let's see, I have a belly band, thunderwear, Blackhawk, Fobus, Hume JIT, Uncle Mike's slide, and a few nylon holsters. My Crossbreed Supertuck IWB gets the most use now, comfortable and conceals well. Second would be the generic slide from Uncle Mike's, it fits everything. Follow Matt G's advice, try to borrow some.

Im not even looking for a holster right now, im just somewhat new to handguns and trying to get all the abbreviations and lingo correct. My xd40 is for home defense and i also take it to the range, i do not carry it on my person. Thanks for the advice though.
