Happy Update To Guide Rod Problem
Thanks to all you guys for your help. My baby is working great now! Your responses were amazingly fast. I don't pretend to understand all the inner workings of the XD pistols but while I stepped away for a few minutes to help my wife with the groceries I had a thought. The only other thing I did to my XD when I put the new guide rod and spring in was to install the firing pin spring that came in the kit too. I thought it looked an awful lot like a 1911 firing pin spring, but figured it must be part of the package for a reason, so I installed it too. It was shorter and lighter and I should have questioned this more. Anyway... I locked the slide back, pulled the retainer plate, put in the old firing pin spring, and reinstalled the plate. Then I released the slide stop lever and eased the slide forward. It went all the way into battery without a hitch! I couldn't believe it. I racked it back and forth several times, took the slide off and on a few times and everything is as slick as ever. I can't explain it and I don't know if it was a coincidence or what, but at least it works. Thanks again for the helpful suggestions.

Yea!
Yep, the springs are 1911 if I recall correctly and yep, you do not use the small one! Don't feel too bad.....I'm the "dummy" that the "I got the spring in backwards" fix sticky on Don's page is all about!!! I love all the help that is available on this site!!!! |

Haha, I think theres something that comes in that package that tells you NOT to use the smaller spring :P or atleast I'm pretty sure mine came with a warning...

(Sheepish look) The rods are usually using a spring made for another pistol, and that spring source includes another small spring that is irrelevant to the XD. It is easiest to use that main spring but not always clear to to ignore the small one. I will work with my vendors on ideas for making this more clear.
