Help With One Piece Guide Rod Problem!

Has anyone had this problem with the Don's One Piece Guide Rod. Mine finally came today and I just tried to install it. I slipped the slide off, put the bushing in the front of the slide (lip into hole), slid the spring on the guide rod (tight coil toward base of rod), installed the rod/spring into the slide putting the base of the guide rod where it usually goes on the barrel and put the slide assembly back on the gun. I moved the slide back and held it in position with the slide lock, swung the front disassembly lever down and then released the slide lock while still holding the slide by hand and moving it forward. The Problem: The slide won't go into full battery. It stops short about 3/16 of an inch from being fully forward. The kicker is that now the slide won't come back off either, it keeps stopping short regardless if the diassembly lever is up or down. I don't want to mess around or get too rough with it because I don't want it to jam.

Anybody else experience this or having any tips to overcome the problem? This is the first time I've ever had a problem with either of my XD's. Thanks

If this is a Tactical, you don't use the bushing.

Bob Try taking it off again remember you have to push the grip safety and pull the trigger I'm not sure whats wrong because by your description you did it correctly but when you get it almost off if it won't go the rest of the way tap the slide lightly with a block of wood and hammer, I had to do this to my sons XD once he didn't get the guide rod seated all the way on the barrel end and it was hanging up. also scroll down the forum pages till you get to Don's section and emial or PM him if that doesn't do the trick, I wish I could be more helpfull on this but by your description it should be right and without seeing it in person I don't know what to say.
P.S. Make triple sure it's UNLOADED Tom

The instructions say to put it in with the tight coiled end onto the base of the rod and the cut end toward slide. That's how I have it. Thanks for the link. I think that guy has a factory type recoil spring and rod assembly.

Thanks, Frostyeyes. I was squeezing the grip safety and pulling the trigger but no luck. I tried to make sure that bugger was seated exactly the way a factory one is on the barrel before I put it back together.

Aarrghh! I have to run and help my wife coming from the grocery store at the moment, but I'll do what you said about contacting Don's. I really hate to force anything with this gun being new but if that's what it takes... Thanks for the help.

you have that part right, Spring on correct but I'm thinking maybe the front end is hanging up.

That sounds right the cut end towards the muzzle. There was another thread a while back about the guid rod slipping off of the barrel, causing the barrel to ride up.
