Finish scuff question

I noticed after a couple trips to the range that the finish near the end of the barrell is getting scuffed - I think by the holster that came with.

I'm new to this rig - what's my best bet for cleaning it up?

I'll post a picture as soon as I can find an open CF card.

Scuffs

I had the same problem....but what I've found is, once you've cleaned your XD and are about to finish up, apply a thin coat of lube to the outside of the slide...let it sit a few mins and then remove, it you don't want to have a greasy gun. You'll notice that small holster blemishes dissappear. Others may have different remidies but this works for me...

Well, if you ever use your gun mutch IT IS GOING TO WEAR... It's a tool, its not something thats supposed to be pretty anyways scratches and holster wear give it character, after a couple months you won't even care anymore... just make sure you dont let rust breed on the slide very often...

I've decided to dump the factory holster & go with something a little less scuff prone.
I'll give the lube job a shot too - thanks!

I just don't like to feel like I don't keep my shjt squared away, you know?

wear I understand. careless scuff mark are another story.

NO Kydex holster should scuff it... the finish is harder than the kydex... but ANY holster will cause normal every day wear... I guess the gun could be rubbing off some kydex onto the slide, but thatll just come off when you clean it...

Mine is scuffed in the same area. I haven't done any cosmetic touch up. A periodically wipe it down with CLP. Other than that, I more interested it going bang when I pull the trigger, versus asthetics.

However I understand that it's a matter of opinion. And I think there are several options for you...chrome, DuraCoat, etc. I'll defer to others on those coatings.

Mine is an XD45 5" BiTone and the muzzle end is scuffed (polished) like you are talking about (and its STAINLESS STEEL!). The only thing it's ever been in is a kydex holster. At first, I got ticked and called the holster manufacturer about it. He said he had never had a complaint about that but to send the holster back and they would refund my money. Although I didn't like what had happened to my XD, I put things into perspective (for me) and realized that if this was all that ever happened to it, I would be a happy camper...er, shooter.

Yeah, wear is something you will just have to learn to deal with, unless you don't want to ever shoot your gun, and maybe put it on a shelf in a glass case... even with melonite/duracote/KG or whatever, It will wear, Just gives it more character...
