MY SA .40 to 9mm Conversion
I was at the range this last weekend getting some good practice in. For some reason my XD9 was having issues. 2 out 10 shots would produce light strikes and the round would not fire. I got sick of messing with it so I decided to try something I have been meaning to try for a while. I swapped my 9mm barrel out of the XD9 and installed it in my XD40. I also installed my 9mm guide rod and spring in the .40 slide. I was really suprised at how well this conversion worked! I even used my standard .40 mags for the 9mm rounds and that worked for the most part. When I used my ProMag magazines it was flawless. It doesn't really cost all that much more to load 9 over 40, but I might start always practicing with this conversion. Shooting the 9 in the .40 slide did feel slightly differant but not enougg to be a problem. The .40 slide felt like it was moving in slow motion, but the I am sure it was just a perception thing.

Congrats, but the title is a little misleading. It should really be your .40 to 9mm conversion

Can you take a pic of this. The 9mm I have has a much smaller diameter barrel than my .40. I can't put the 9mm barrel in the .40 slide because there is a large gap in the frame where the barrel exits the frame.

Your right I did phrase that all wrong. I can see if I can get a picture. Why would the gap be a problem?? From my 200 rounds of fire I can tell you that it seemed to me to be just as accurate as it normally would be. While it might look bad I can't seem to find any issues with how it shoots.

The barrel will move around too much might cause damage to the barrel or frame. I would also think it would cause accuarcy problems, hey maybe I'm wrong.

coversions
Glock does the same thing. the 40 barrel has a Larger Outside diameter than the 9mm barrel. This sizing differance prevents end users from putting the 40 barrel into the 9mm slide. However, companies like Lone Wolfe speciffically make conversions barrels for the Glocks that allow a 9 to be used in a 40 slide accurately because the ouside diameter of the 9mm barrel has been brought up in dimensisions to match that of the 40SW

Why???
Sorry to seem like a pest but, what is the point in doing this???? I thought the reason you get a conversion barrel for your 40 is because you want to also have a 9 (2 guns in one) but if you already have a 9 then why swap them out? I mean if you took the barrel, the rod and even the spring from your XD9 and put them all in you XD40, isnt that the same thing as just shooting your 9? Except of course it would be slightly less accurate.........

Any idea why you are having the failure to fire problem?
