XD Finish Question

Hi everyone, I'm going to a gun show in about six hours. My special order of an XD9 w/ Heinie sights from a local gun shop fell through so I'll probably be buying an XD at the show. My question: since Springfield's customer service is closed on the weekends, is there anyway to tell if I'm getting an XD w/ a mellonite finish? I know that they are supposed to look a little darker but am afraid I won't be able to tell the difference. All help is appreciated!

Oh, and I've never bought a gun before, gun show or otherwise. What kind of procedure am I looking at for a Texas show, i.e., background check, etc.?

All I know is that they say that all .45ACP's have it, and all of the other calibers have it if they were produced in April of 2006 or later, if you could find that out. Of course, mine was dated 3/20/2006.

april 06 is when they started the melonite. look at the test fired casing envelope, and check the date. once purchased you can email SA with the serial number and they can tell you for sure.

For goodness sake!

If it's patchy, has NO shine and looks like it ABSORBS liquid it's NOT Melonite.

If it is consistent, smooth and has a mild sheen it DOES...use them peepers the good Lord gave ya, son!
