Duacoat questions
first, i just recieved my XD disassembly and Reassembly dvd (thanks JAG)
the dvd's very informative (though he doesnt show how to remove a couple things). i'm considering ordering the Duracoat EZ finishing kit and doing up my XD myself. i'm considering beating the sites out and maybe installing new sites while i'm at it.. i feel confident i can pull it off. now to my questions. should i remove everything i can from the slide that the dvd shows? (firing pin lock plate, firing pin etc). i hadnt planned or expected to have to do anything on the inside of the gun, but do the "pros" duracoat the inside of the slide as well as the outside? also does anyone have a good pic of the differences between Semi Gloss, Gloss and Combat Black. looking on Lauers doesnt really have decent pics. any info or hints or pointers would be great. cheers

I'm not sure about everyone, but I took mine to James and he did inside and outside of the slide. As for the difference in semi-gloss, gloss, and combat, I'm not sure. I just told him I wanted it black, and that I wanted it to match the frame as much as possible. It has a little shine to it, but the color is perfect.
I think the reasoning for coating the inside as well as the outside is for protection. Sure, the outside is exposed to the elements a bit more, but the inside is where gunpowder collects, and there's a lot more going on inside the slide than out. |

i just did mine. i need to find my damn camera,( i swear that little things got legs) and ill put it up. i did all metal parts and my magwell. i didnt completely disassemble my slide i i just taped off the regions i didnt want coated. and if you buy the kit from lauer custom weaponry i would suggest your own compressor as those cans of air suck. we went threw like 4 of the big ones.

I totally stripped my frame and did the small metal parts individualy. I also did the inside of the frame.
Are you going to sandblast the parts? It helps to have a sandblasted or parkerized surface, the paint sticks better to it. I removed the blue from my frame and then parkerized it.
