Instructor question...
I just took the new 45 compact out for its first 200 round spin. "IT" ran flawlessly with a mix of WWB & UMC FMJ and Golden Sabre JHP. But I swear, my SC40 shoots more consistently for me. Lot's of really low hits mixed in with some OK groups at 15 yards. I don't get the really low hits with the SC.
Why would there be such a big difference between the SC and the C? Heck I shoot the SC better than my 9 service too. Am I expecting too much when I think the XD family would behave more closely from flavor to flavor? I'm a little lost on this. Thanks in advance, Nick

Maybe you have to get used to the different recoil?

After the second trip...I'm sure it's just the trigger break in. It'll be just fine.

Let me ask some basics questions and maybe I can come up with some ideas.
1.) Are you a left or right handed shooter? 2.) When you say that it shoots low. Is it straight down or is it to the left or right? 3.) Are you experiencing this while standing or bench shooting?

Right handed.
I was getting quite a few very low hits that were pretty much straight down. I think the "new" heavier trigger just had me pulling the muzzle down a bit. As the trigger is loosening up, the low shots are going away. From a bench it's pretty consistent on POA. After the second range trip, I'm pretty sure it's just me being so accustom to my SC that the small differences between it and the 45 are magnifying the flaws in my shooting technique. Let me get a few hundred more rounds through it.....but I'll appreciate any advice. Nick

The second and more than likely is your trigger pull. Try slowing down and pressing the trigger instead of slapping it or jerking it. One of the first handgun classes I went through the instructor always preached that when you are up on target in the back of your mind say "Front sight squeeze, front sight squeeze.." Meaning to concentrate on the front sight and to squeeze the trigger. If when bench shooting you are hitting POA POI then it is all in you and not the weapon. Try to slow down a little bit and to concentrate on the basics of shooting. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast

As you squeeze the trigger, hold it back. As already mentioned, get a good sight picture before and after the shot. Then release the trigger just to reset, and fire the next shot. See if that helps.
Sounds like a combination of trigger control and lack of follow through. |

Just wanted to thank you CA and Ex for the instruction. I sneaked out to the range at lunch today. I still had some get away, but I felt MUCH better this session. I did relax my grip a bit, but most of my focus was on front sight, squeeze and hold it.
I fired 40 rounds each at these two targets from 15 yards, plus another forty at some paper plates. http:// ![]() http:// ![]() I have a long way to go, but this is definitely progress for me. Thanks again.

The triggers on the SC's tend to break easier...
Might be something to that. |
