The whole gun?
So if just guide rod breaks, you couldn't just send that? Or if something just breaks on the frame, or just on the slide. I'm just wondering if you always have to send the whole frickin gun in no matter what.

Well cartainly. I would at least talk them into letting me send the least parts possible. Sending parts of a gun we're talking "machine parts" not a "gun". No overnight shipping necessary from FedEx or UPS. I read the USPS restrictions and it says nothing about separate gun parts anyway.
Well...there is this though... -11.1.6 Certificate of Manufacturers and Dealers A licensed manufacturer or dealer need not file the affidavit under 11.1.4, but must file with the postmaster a statement on Form 1508 signed by the mailer that he or she is a licensed manufacturer or dealer of firearms, that the parcels containing handguns (or major component parts thereof) are customary trade shipments or contain such articles for repairing or replacing parts, and that to the best of his or her knowledge or belief the addressees are licensed manufacturers or dealers of firearms.- The guys are pretty cool doen at the gun shop where I bought my XD. I wonder if...

Sorry folks, BUT the BATF considers the frame a whole gun, so any time you ship the frame it is conisdered a gun.

Scott,
Does this mean that the slide or the barrel isn't a gun? That these parts can be shipped as "parts"? Apologies if this has been asked before.... Lou |

Yep, you can ship every part except the frame as "parts" and stay legal. Ship a frame as anything but a gun as parts and you've broken the law unless you are FFL to FFL.
