Were you able to push off factory installed sights?

The MGW takes off the stock sights like butter! If you use a small cheater bar on the screw. Won't hurt it. I had to grind down my MGW to get the rear TFO's to fit. Barely.

The "universal" sight pushers are great for 1911's and glocks. Since the slide on the XD is 'tapered', the sight pusher doesn't work at all.
I've tried on 3 seprate occasions and either pounded the hell out of it with a hammer and a drift punch, or just sent it to Scott Springer. I guess next time I'll get out the jaws of life from work and give that a try.

MM Big Hammer. Brass Punch. Bang Bang
pain in the butt. but I got em on..not worth the trouble, I would take them to someone with a good sight pusher.

Some come out easy, some come out hard, and some really hard (ie. mill them out.) I almost broke a real nice sight pusher trying to get one of the first sets I ever took out. I actually did have to rebuild the pusher block, so if you are confused by the answers of folks, it is because the experience can vary greatly.

To hammer the factory sights out, I assume a brass bar will not mar or scratch the slide (as much as steel?). |

I'm not too worried about getting the factory sights out. Brass punch and a weighted dead blow hammer should do the trick. I'm more worried getting the new sights in. Not sure how Heine's (or other sights) would like being banged in with a BFH. I'm also not sure how easy it would be to fine tune the sights and adjust them for point of aim.

Something doesn't sound right about fine tuning with a heavy hammer.
