Dry Firing tips

I am new to pistol shooting. I have recently purchased an XD9sc and need to get in some serious practice/training. I particularly need to work on trigger control. To this end, I want to begin dry firing exercises to correct/identify my trigger shortcomings.

Are there any specific methods that I should use when dry firing an XD?
Is this practice particularly damaging to the firing pin or other mechanisms on the XD, etc.?

Thanks in advance,

No need to be concerned about damage to the pistol. Snap-Caps are a good idea if you have them.

Dry fire is a great way to learn trigger control. Adding a laser to the gun will help that much more.

As has been advised check to ensure that your pistol is not loaded every time you touch it. Snap caps are the way to go. Practice, practice, practice. Dry fire until it becomes second nature. If you are diligent in this you will definitely notice a steady improvement when you go to the range.

+1 try and keep the laser on target during follow through.
