Well... I couldn't wait any longer after talking about it for a week on the board. This morning I was the first customer at Guns Galore in Fenton, MI and plopped down the $449 for a new XD40 Service in black. To be honest I started wavering between the Glock 23 and the XD. I fondled both, compared the height, weight and length differences of the two 4 inchers and decided my XD9 was just too good a gun not to stick with an XD. Even the owner of the shop said the XD was a better pick before I made my decision. I also picked up a paddle holster that my XD9 will fit in too, and now my next plan is to pick up a 357SIG barrel for the XD40. I've seen some posts that I think included links to manufacturers that sell barrels so that's where I'm headed now. Just wanted to share my joy.

Congratulations! Welcome to the 40 side of the house. The people down at my local gun shop also said that the XD is a superior gun to the glock of course they added "That's just my opinion" but we all know whose opinion counts

Thanks for all the congrats guys. I just got back from the range and I wasn't let down one bit. Right out of the box she handled flawlessly with Winchester 165 & 180gr FMJ, Cor-Bon 150gr, and Federal 165gr Hydra-Shok Defense ammo. It feels great to shoot and kind of puts my XD9 into little brother status. If this 40 operates anything like my 9 has then I've got two great XD's I'll never let get away. I better go clean 'em up and continue shopping for that SIG barrel. Any suggestions on the best barrel choice for a 357SIG conversion barrel?

I just know the guys at Guns Galore were a lot of help after 30 minutes of trying to get their attention. I lived in Fenton for 15 years and hated going in the place, but the prices were fair and they have a lot of stock. Their attitude leaves much to be desired though.
Anyway congrats on a wise decision. By the way is the Pontiac Lake range still there after extending the airport?
