What should I do?
With my tax return coming up, I'm looking to get another pistol. Here is what I'm thinking.
XD40sc: I'm carrying my service now but, being a bit of a skinnier guy, my service handle has a tendancy to print. I'm thinking the sc will give me a better CCW. I'm am wanting to start competitve shooting. If I go this route, I will need to use my XD40 for USPSA and a buddies G17 for GSSF (he competes and wants me to try it out with him.) XD9 Tactical: I can use this for USPSA and continue to carry my XD40. I would still need to borrow my buddies G17 for GSSF (not sure I like using someone elses gun). G17: I'd continue to use my XD40 as my carry. I could use this for both USPSA and GSSF and my buddy (who is at the master shooting level in GSSF and service rifle) has offered to help me with a competition trigger job. My only concern here is getting used to the completely different feel of a Glock and whether it will mess up my ability to shoot my XD40 accurately (being able to shoot my CCW weapon accurately is by far most important to me). Anyone else do anything like this?

Since you asked, if I were you I would buy the XD9 Tactical for competition and carry the XD40. I don't like borrowing or lending guns either, but if your buddy is a good friend you can clean his G17 and buy him some ammo whenever you shoot GSSF events.

I'd buy a Ruger No.1 in 7mm Rem Mag with laminated stock from Preacher.

The first thing is will you ever reload your own ammo?
If you will, and want to do some USPSA shooting, then get a XD40 Tactical, or a 4" XD40. If not then get an XD Tactical in 9mm ( for the cheaper, and lower power ammo), and as for how long the barrel is for carry, it's the grip that makes the deffrence, and not how long the barrel is. I carry a 4", and use a 5" for USPSA, only because a 5" won't fit in my carry holster. As far as shooting Glock matches goes, it's one match, maybe two a year depending on how far you want to travel (If you want to shoot one in MN you could use mine), then you might as well use your friend's gun, and you could use your XD for the other 15-20 USPSA matches you could shoot. GSSF= Glock Shooting Sports Fedaration, I think that's right. |

I was just joking, but you probably want to get the Glock if you are serious about that competition. I've rotated shooting 3 different Glocks, revolvers and XD-9 subbie while shooting my XD in practice and never had a problem getting right back on target with the XD. My only problem is that I don't have an XD at all anymore. I'm now shooting an H&K USP 45. And, the funny thing is that a slightly modified XD (DGR and Grips) is more fun and easier to shoot than any Glock I have shot or the H&K. I do like the H&K, though. And, my b-in-laws 357 Sig Glock w/ 33-round (?) mag is a hoot!

I'd get the XD 9 tactical and get a grip chop job done on the service .40 (do it yourself or send it out). best of both worlds.
