Newbie questions

Just got a XD 9 mm subcompact on Friday (first handgun ever) and put 100 rounds through it on Sat with no problems. I do have a few newbie questions.

1. Is it ok to show pics of your gun where the serial number can be read? Any harm in this?

2. When your slide locks back after finishing off a magazine, is it ok to just load a new magazine and hit the slide release button (thus letting the slide rack with full force while chambering a round) ? I don't know maybe this is the standard, but I haven't been around ranges/guns too much. I'm pretty sure its ok but didn't want to be doing anything harmful to the gun, etc.

3. Wolf ammo is NOT reloaded ammo right? (Reloads void your warranty). I thought it wasn't but read somewhere that indicated it was. If not, do a lot of you shoot Wolf? I used 50 rds of Eagle (or whatever its called) and 50 rds of Independence. Couldn't tell the difference between the two.

4. Why are guns so addicting?? Ive got the itch with no cure (lots of extra cash) for it. I want an AK or AR-15 before any possible ban, some more XDs, maybe a glock at some point, a nice hunting rifle, any maybe a little Kel-Tec for hot weather. Geesh, too many wants that won't become reality for a long time.

First, welcome to the forum....to answer some of your questions....

1. From what I have seen on this board and others, there seems to be no problem in posting your gun w/ serial number..... personal preference....do what makes you happy

2. Releasing the slide in the way you described is how the gun was designed to work....other option is to "sling shot" the slide foward

3. Don't know much about wolf ammo, others here do. I do know that WWB (Winchester White Box) ammo is popular for all calibers of the XDs

4. Let me know when you have this one figured out...I have been working on this since I was 10

1) I wouldnt think so, In fact, bluring it may suggest that somthins up with it!

2) Personal preferance to use the slide release or sling your slide.

3) AVOID WOLF AMMO, this stuff is crap anyway. I have found that there are alot of duds, and their mesurements are off a bit, which can screw up your weapon!! ANYTHING BUT WOLF!

4) It only gets worse!!

Conratulations on your new purchase!!

1. Some people including myself are just not comfortable showing the SN, but its up to you.

2. Nothing harmful about it, just be sure to keep you finger out of the trigger guard when releasing the slide stop.

3. Wolf is not reloaded, however alot of ranges won't allow becasue they can't use the casings to reload the ammo that they sell as reloads.

4. Just take your time and not rush into anything, enjoy your new XD for awhile until you decide exactly what you want next, just my .02

1. I've seen some pics posted where the serial number was intentionally blurred or blacked out. Not sure why, except for same reason some post car pics and black out the license plate. The less personal info given out, the better.

2. I am in the habit of using the slide release to chamber the first round in a new mag. But when I took my CHL qual range test, the instructor suggested that I try to get in the habit of sling-shoting the slide by hand. He said that in time the slide catch may get worn enough to not lock open. Not sure about this.

3. I have had great success with WWB as well as CC Blazer ammo. Never used Wolf. Be sure and run some of your preferred Self-defense (hollow point) ammo through it when you get a chance.

4. It's a great way to relax and let off steam. I'm now looking for a wheel gun to supplement my semi-autos.

1. I don't think its a good idea to show the serial number. Someone could possible use the number for nefarious purposes.

2. No problem using the slide release or the sling shot method.

3. I have to go the otherway on this one. Wolf Ammo has been some of the most reliable ammo I have shot. I have never come across any wolf round that was out of spec or had a failure to fire or failure to eject or even failure to hit the target. I buy the stuff in bulk so my XD has had several thousand rounds of Wolf and not one failure. I also have shot factory reloads and even my own with no issues.

4. Guns are addicting because since time immemmorial man has been facinated with things that go BANG!

1. I've always seen the serial number blurred out. I don't know why, but I do just for precaution.

2. Let 'er slide. They were designed to do so.

3. I was told to stay away from Wolf pistol ammo. Although it's great stuff in rifle calibers.

4. The only cure for this disease is running out of money. Atleast that's what stopped me from buying everything I want.

The WWB ammo comes in a box of 100 correct? Just need to know what to look/ask for. Might need to check out the local Walmart today Do stores such as Sportsman's Warehouse and other small gun stores carry WWB or is it more exclusive to Walmart?

Also, a got my XD 9mm subcompact for $500 w/ the Heine night sights. Just wondering if that is a good deal. I think it is since those sights are fairly pricey when sold separately.

Also, just want to thank everyone on the board for all the help (in coming days too). One conclusion Ive made is that most gun enthusiasts are really cool people, especially XD Talkers
