Took her out for a spin this weekend....
Well I took my XD40 out to the range for the first time Friday to break her in a bit. WOW! The power of this gun, it sounded like a hand cannon when I was shooting it. =) I put 150 rounds through her without one problem. I tried the Speer Gold Dots, I liked them better then the brand they originally gave me, all they had was the 180gr though I was hoping to try the 165.
Ive still got a lot to learn though. Im planning on taking the NRA basic handgun course as soon as I can. I was treying to work on my stance and Grip. It will take me just a little while to get use to the recoil of it, I was a little off on the target. Sometimes I hit right around where I aimed but others it was off a little low. Question: With the factory sight, should you line them up with the target or are you supposed to aim right below it or what? I may just order a laser sight to correct that lol. Also, I was thinking about ordering a few pieces for it possibly a new barrel and a guide rod. What pound guide rod should I get, I wana greatly reduce the recoil a bit so I can be more accurate, what upgrades do you guys suggest?? |

You wont like my opinion but here t is anyways...
Dont cripple your learning by using a laser sight. Learn to use the iron sights and figure out where YOUR gun hits. No matter what the book says, every gun will shoto differently. I wouldnt change your guiderod and spring yet either. Keep it simple and dont throw yourself curves.

Ok cool, ill definately hold off for now on that stuff then. About how many rounds did it take you guys to break yours in? Im really excited about going back out there though. It was just something I wasnt used to, past the break in point would you say you noticed a big difference in performance?

I think somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 rounds and she is broken in....
as far as the recoil is concerned...you won't really see a change in the gun so much as you will notice changes in yourself. As you become more comfortable with the gun, YOU will notice a difference in YOUR performance.... |

i think lasers have to be or are already sighted in for certain distances so what may be good at one distance will be off at another ,i would stay away from lasers that protrude from the gun i like the crimson trace type and the guide rod type but only because of the availability of holsters that can be used , have you given truglo or other such fibre optic sightsany thaught? they might work for you.

Try the SureSights. Everyone who has them loves them. There is a learning curve, but they are much simpler and easier to use than anything else I've tried. Check out the forum here. They are also a sponsor. http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=46
