It's official
After waiting for around two years I finally sealed the deal and got an XD subcompact 9 mm with trijicon heine night sights and the melontie finish, yeah! ...(pictures pending). Its my first handgun purchase ever. I put 100 rounds through it at the range with zero malfunctions/problems.
I might need to post some pictures but I do have a few concerns...First, I noticed my front sight is not perfectly lined up between the two marks but I don't know if it is enough to cause my shots to be off center or not...(At the range I was just getting a feel for the gun and was not trying to see how accurate I could be...that will be in a future trip). Anyway, my second concern is that after I cleaned the gun and pulled it back out awhile later to admire it, I noticed some brassy colored streaks that follow the rifleling in the barrel...at first I thought I might have binded up a whole bunch of brass from the bristle brush but then realized that I used a plastic one. Is this brass color normal for inside the barrel?? If pics are needed I will submit them. Thanks for any info given, and I am stoked to be officially a part of XD family. |

the lines dont match with my sights.. and mines dead on, give yourself some time to adjust to the gun, after you've blown about a 1000 rounds out of her, that trigger will smooth way out.
cheers

It's probably copper from the jacketed bullets. It really doesn't hurt anything but if you want to remove it try a brass bore brush with some Hopps #9. If that doesn't get it get some copper solvent there are numerous available with the gun cleaning supplies. Beware it stinks!!!!!

The copper in the rifling isn't really anything to worry about. Do a normal cleaning using something like Hoppes 9 after each range session. After every few range sessions, clean the bore with something like Hoppes Elite. Spray some into the bore, let it soak for a few minutes, scrub with a plastic brush, run a patch through with the same solvent on it, and then run a few dry patches through. (Just be sure to use a plastic brush if you are using a solvent designed to target copper since the metal brushes contain copper.)
