Polishing grip safety

I did a lot of shooting this week. During one visit to the range, I just happened to get in a lane next to a fellow forum member. He had a XD9sc and had polished the grip safety. It looked really nice so I decided I'm going to try the same thing. I've polished the barrel already, so I think this will be nice compliment. Here is my question:

I'm having a little trouble punching out the pin that holds the grip safety in. Does it matter which way the pic comes out? It gets to the very edge but then doesn't want to move any further. Any help would be awesome.

I've always punched it out right to left. The spring is a bear to put back. Have you removed the sear?

I think i did mine right to left, once you get it out, try pulling it that last little bit with your fingers or padded pliers. I would also recommend some type of clear coat, because my grip safety get dull and has a minor issue with rust (i think from oils in my skin). I agree with agalindo, it is a pita to get that back in, and I've always had to remove the sear and all other components to get it back in.
