Wanting to buy XD in .45ACP... Which one??
My .40 XD SC has sold me on XD's! I really like how the XD fits my hands and seems to shoot better than my other pistols...
Also the other day I saw an example of the expansion of the HST in 45. WOW. That is what I want for general all round self defense. So, I want to move back to a .45 and was wondering which XD I should get... Have to choose from 1) XD 45 ACP 2) XD Compact 3) Tactical I don't think I will ever have the time to shoot and compete again so the Tactical (which I think is pretty awesome) is probably out. Thinking for camping, hiking, home defense, etc.. I like the idea of a shortened grip on the compact. And that is what I am leaning toward. Anyone who has the compact in 5"" feel, due to the shorter grip, that the front is tip heavy?? Last edited by Bits&Bytes : 03-04-2007 at 09:16 AM. |

The 5" compact is a little goofy to me.
My vote and recommendation is for the 4" compact. Does everything well and offers the most versatility.

Like the idea of a longer barrel but on the Compact may not ballance as well as the 4". Don't think I will have a chance to shoot the Compact before I buy it so will probably go with 4".
Wish they came in bi-tone... |

I have the XD45 Service for home defense and it works well for me.

The compact will be more versatile like Red02Deuce articulated.

I have the 5", and wouldn't trade it. I shot the 4" as a rental, and I decided to go with the longer barrel. It weighs more in the front end, which to me, made it balance better.

If I had to choose again, I would go with the 4" Compact. I have the 4" Service now, but if the compact was available last year when I was in the market that's the one I would have bought.
I like the versatility that the Compact gives. |

I have an XD45 Service and though it can be concealed fairly easily the 4" Compact would be much easier. So if you plan on carrying this gu go for the 4" compact.

I replaced my Service with a Compact as the XD45 is my primary carry weapon.
Sounds like you need the Compact, and you still have the 13rnd mags for home defense.
