It's Official....I'm in the club now....

Well....it's official....I'am now the proud owner of a new fangled plastic bottom feeder type handgun.
Picked up a new 4" (service model) Springfield XD in 9mm yesturday morning, and was on the range and shooting the steel plates by noon. I also picked up 6 boxes of CCI Blaser, and quickly evaporated 4 of them in short order. If it was a nicer day (weather wise) I would have stayed until I shot it all up, but it was cold, windy and nasty out there, and I didn't want to expose my new gun to those harsh conditions.....LOL

One quick glance at the instruction book, and this thing falls apart in your hands, cleans up quick, and goes back together just as fast.
The cool part is, I got one of the Springfield promo deals with three mags, and a fully adjustable kydex holster. The trigger is smooth, with a crisp break, but it's just a little on the heavy side, but with only 400 rounds through it, I'll give it some time to break-in, and I'm sure it'll get even better with use.

After I unloaded the Beretta 96FS I had, I swore I'd never get another bottom feeder again, and here I'am....
At least this time I had plenty of oppertunity to shoot a couple of these guns before buying one, and that's a big help when buying a gun.

So I guess next I'll have to get the Sub-Compact XD-9, then the 5" Tactical, then one of each in the other calibers..............HELP...I'VE GOT G.A.S.........."That's Gun Acquisition Syndrom"....not the other kind....

Welcome.

I loved my 96 until I started shooting my XD9 Service. Now I don't even want to touch the Beretta.

Welcome to the forum.

Looks as though we have a "former 96" club starting here. I've had my XD-9 sub for well over a year and had a Beretta 96 longer than that. Just recently traded the 96 for the XD-40 service. While the Beretta is a fine piece of craftsmanship I could never shoot accurately with it. Completely different story with the XD-40. I agonized over getting rid of the 96 for several months. Now, I'm not looking back.

I still have the 96 and will have a hard time parting with it. I'm surprised how hard it is to be accurate with it compared to the XD, even though the 96 has a longer barrel. I've been contemplating getting rid of it for a month or so now. It was my first handgun so has a sentimental value to me, but hey, if it's no fun to shoot, than why keep it!

Anyways, I'm thinking of selling is and using the money towards getting an AR15.

Bottom feeder? LOL I'm a little slow, but I take that to mean you like revolvers?

Yes Nik, I've always pretty much been a "Wheel Gun" man. I once had a Colt Series 70 1911 .45ACP many moons ago and didn't like it. More recently I had a Beretta 96FS that I also didn't like, or was able to shoot accurately, and that gun was also traded in on a revolver just like the Colt 1911 was before it.
Until now, and other than those two previous "bottom feeders" mentioned, it's been nothing but wheel guns for close to 30 years of shooting for me.
I still love my revolvers, double actions and single actions alike, and have no intentions of parting with them. However, now that I finally met a bottom feeder I truely enjoy shooting, and can shoot it accurately, my next couple of hand gun purchases may not be "made of steel and have a wheel"....

I've also changed my opinion of the 1911 recently since I've had the oppertunity to shoot a couple that were truely impressive. A Kimber "Match Target II" to name one, and a couple of the higher end offerings from Springfield. One of those being an "Ultra Compact" that was a total blast to shoot. But before I go looking at one of those, I'll most likely want to get a "Sub Compact" model XD-9....(you know...for around the house)...

Welcome to the club Tony!

There is an initiation that you must edure.. it involves eating a dollop of whipped cream off the tip of a dildo.. but don't worry about that just yet, you don't have to be initiated until you 1000th post.. which reminds me.. Hey BD!!! Your time has come!! LOL (No pun intended.)

Maybe the 96 is the problem. lol. I really like my XD9mm SC, but my Beretta 92f still is more accurate. Of course, I have only had the XD for about 8 months and have had the Beretta since 1990. I made sure I was proficient with it since I carried it on duty and sorta depended on it for my life. Bought it when I retired.

I better warn you Capt Ray, I'm a 20+ year veteran of the professional fire fighting service. Proper decorum would prohibit me from describing some of the pranks & practical jokes my fireman brothers and I have pulled on our rookies......
I can not be insulted, I can not be embarassed, and I've done things that made grown men run for a trash can to puke in........now what was that initiation thing you were talking about.....
