Mag. wont drop free
Four of my magazines will drop free out of my 4" XD40 and five of them will drop free out of my wifes 5" 40. Only one of my mags wont drop free and the magazine release button feels extra stiff on this particular magazine. This just started happening. they did all used to drop.
I bent the magazine spring out, and then loaded it to capacity to help reset the spring. Is there anything else I can do? Thanks DaFunk P.S. I love my XD and this is the first problem that I've had in over 3000 rounds with my weapon. |

I had a mag for my 45 that wouldn't drop free. I found that the mag was bent out in the rear just below the feed lips. A couple of shots with a small brass hammer fixed it. One other fellow found that the hole in the mag where that lever goes had a bur, a file fixed that. Look up the mag well with a good light you may be able to see where there is excessive wear.

Also there is a hole in the mag that the mag latch engages which holds the mag in place. Check it for burrs, use a small round file to remove them or if you can't find anything else wrong you can make the hole a little longer at the top so it can release better. Don't rmove too much or the mag will be loose in the gun.
