Picked up new subcompact 9, few questions
Its been a long ten days, but i finally have my sc9... Put pearce grip extentions on and i was amazed on how much more easy it is to hold. Will take it to the range today to test fire.
Just a few questions. Does anyone notice any hairline streaks on the frame? Primarily around the trigger and magazine release button? im problaby just paranoid? maybe its from the mold? its very hard to notice, but i just came across it while inspecting the gun at home. ill try to get some pictures but i dont have a camera on hand. gun was made in january of 2007, for what its worth. Another question is... is there a difference between speer gold dot 124 +p and speer gold dot 124 +p SHORT BARREL? Midwayusa has the short barrel in stock and was wondering if its a relatively new product and/or if anyone has found any differences? Thanks in advance. 1. The mold imperfections are probably nothing to worry about. Take a very clear well-lit photo and send it to Springfield if it will make you feel better.
2. The short barrel ammo is supposed to expand more reliably out of a short barrel. Consider that most bullets are likely designed/tested out of longer barrels. (Shorter barrel = less velocity = possible problems with expansion.) I haven't seen any test results online where somebody shot the short barrel versus regular out of a 9mm sub-compact. Short of testing it yourself, sometimes you have to trust that their engineers know more than we do. 3. Well, if you don't do it correctly, you could have feeding issues. So, if you do it, you will want to feed lots and lots of ammo through it to be sure. I would still be hesitant to use it for self-defense. It would be nice at the range to reduce reloading slightly while maintaining the feel of the short magazine. While it never hurts to have more, 10 rounds with another in the chamber is going to be enough for virtually any non-law enforcement self-defense purpose. It isn't like you are trying to invade North Korea or something. People (including cops) did OK with revolvers for a long time. You can use the 16+1 magazine at home. The 10 round magazine had to do with staying within magazine capacity laws in some states/cities. |

Short barrel ammo is also advertised to have less muzzle flash so you're "less" blinded when shooting in the dark. I have never seen nor heard any real world feedback on that.

I think what you are seeing is mold marks. I have them in my XD 40 SC. They have not changed since new (3000 rounds ago).
