How to get 13 in a 10rnd sc9 mag

I have read these forums and found out about the sc40 mags being able to hold 13 9mm rounds, so I bought one. the problem with the mag is the feed lips were too far spaced and I would get stove pipes and ftf's. So I tried bending the feed lips in just a hair, didnt help.., another hair, still ftf's, so a hair more I closed down on the feed lips and now it fires fine except now the feed lips are to close together and they keep the follower from rising far enough to engage the slide stop. So I kept trying to adjust and test butI was getting nowhere so I gave up.

I then had an Idea, Why not use the sc40 follower and spring in the sc9 mag? And guess what, 300 rounds later and the mag has not malfuntioned once! And I still get 13 rds in the mag too.

I know most people on here dont have a problem with there 40sc mags in a sc9 but I had a lot of FTF's and stovepipes begining after 400 rounds through the mag. The feed lips on your mag should not let the bullet stand up in the mag if you apply a little upward pressure on the round, and if it does It can cause a jam. Use the mag with the correct size feedlips for the round.

The 40sc follower is the same as the full size 9mm mag follower. The sc9 mag followers and springs are diffrent styles than any other magazine SA makes. I think its one of those 10 rnd limit capacity ban magazines and SA never got around to changing them to have the new follower and spring.
Just replace the follower with a ful size 9 or a ful size/sc 40 follower and replace the spring for one out of a 40sc and you will have a 13 round sc9 mag

Thanks for the tip. I am going to have to try that out for myself.

There is absolutely no reason to go through all that work with the switching the mag followers, springs and all that other nonesense.

If done properly the SC .4o mags work fine in the 9mm....I should know because I'm flawlessly using 6 of them.

You bent the lips too far down. You need to use needle nose and grab the very top of the lips and tweek them.

The XD40 mag lips have a gap a little less than 10mm, to use them in an XD9 just bend each side until you have a gap a little less then 9mm. I have found it easier to put just 12 rounds in instead of 13. That will give you a pretty good 12 in the mag and 1 in the chamber.

Anyone got any pictures or threads showing the process?

my concern is.. if its so easily done, wouldnt springfield armory do that to their own magazines and advertise it as a 12+1 or 13+1 pistol? is there any downfalls to using .40 cal magazines?

I have been using the 40 cal Sub mags for some time, only the front of the mag lips need bending, the rears are the same. However I have wondered about switching followers and springs-kinda glad someone tried it. Now if Springfeild would sell springs and followers I would be all set.

Woohoo! Newb question!

What's "stovepiping"?

Wait... GTFG... (Go to Funk-tastic Google)

http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_b...sages/842.html

Response 2: A stovepipe is when the ejected shell doesn't get out of the way of the closing slide in time. This can be a dangerous situation. The shell hasn't ejected, the next round hasn't been chambered but it has frequently been scooped out of the mag. Keep the weapon pointed downrange and horizontal, keep your finger out of the trigger guard, drop and catch the magazine, retract the slide and catch the loose round if there is one. The spent shell may follow the loose round down the magazine tunnel or not. Carefully examine the loose round in case it got squashed. Don't use the spent shell for reloading. Stovepiping should occur almost never with factory bullets in a decent and clean/lubed gun that hasn't been toyed with. If it happens to you more than almost never then you have an actual problem you need to identify and correct.

+1 to INT for me...

I'd REALLY love to see Springfield do this too! I want 13rd FACTORY 9sc mags!

You'd think they'd do it. Gives them a selling point against the competition that only has 10rd mags, like the Glock 26.
