ok. last time it was the guide rod assembly. this time, the slide lock sheared off. this is bullsh!t. i have to send my only pistol to SA for "3 to 4 weeks." why me?!?
i went and looked at sigs today...unless sa replaces the gun entirely, i think i'm going to sell it...and i just ordered a crossbreed

Buy another gun. Then the one you ship back to SA won't be the "only" gun you have.

that's slightly out of context...
eta: i am not discounting the xd line. i almost bought an sc today, because of my lack of this pistol for whatever time. i can't because of the recent purchase. anyway, the two failures, so close together, and both of a metallurgic nature, make me think i just got a lemon. i hope...

There have been some reports of issues with the captive recoil spring this past 12 months as I recall. I have an XD 9 Tactical which has now perhaps 5000 rounds through it with no issues....The Tactical uses the more conventional spring over the guide rod....If you have a service XD you may wish to consider changing to Don's Guide Rod (Wolf also makes a guide rod replacement for the service XDs as I recall....
