tn laws

I am about to take my handgun permit course in Jolton TN, and after i complete that I have to go to the DMV and fill out a handgun permit request form.. I have done some reading and was wondering if anyone from TN has had to do the fingerprint thingy.. and where to go to do it etc.. do they make you the appointment does it cost extra etc..

and how long does it take to get the permit after the forms have been submitted.

the dmv will give you the number of the company that takes your fingerprints, it's now outsourced, and YOU make the appointment. it doesn't cost anything more, it's all included in your 120 or whatever the price is now. it took two weeks to the day after i got my fingerprints taken to get mine, my buddy's took about 6 weeks. some have taken all 90 days. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE WITH YOU when you go to the DMV.

For fingerprinting they sent me to the local UPS store (yes the shipping place). It did not cost any extra - the $115 you pay at the DMV must cover it. I went by at my own convenience and they had me out of there in less than 10 minutes. The DMV will give you a number to call that will confirm when your paperwork has been processed, usually 24 hours later, and they will let you know where the fingerprinting place or places are.

You need a birth certificate. I think a passport will work as well. You can go to the health department and get a new birth certificate printed same day for $7.

I just got my permit yesterday. It took 26 days from the day of the fingerprinting

I too got mine from ASP in Joelton. They are great. They will also explain and tell you exactly how and where to go. Must have Birth Certificate.
