Washington Gun Laws

I am new to pistols. I just ordered my first which is a xd45acp compact. I am looking to get a ccp but I was also wondering if there was a law against open carry in Washington State.

Good question. I'll be moving to Washington State, so this should be informative.

Here's a couple resources for you:
http://www.packing.org/state/washington/

I use packing.org for most of my references.

http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/forum55/
This could be the best resource for a guy wanting to OC in Washington (or anywhere for that matter).

It is legal to open carry in Washington State.

But good luck convincing most city police officers that.

Right now the city of Federal Way recognizes that it is legal.

Here is a link to the City memo: http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/IPncRdW...ryBulletin.pdf

I have heard that Renton and Bellevue have also issued memos to their police departments that it is legal to open carry.

The city of Seattle does know that its legal but they also say anyone who is carrying open in Seattle will be meeting with several Seattle police officers and answering a lot of questions. They have not issued any memos and don't sound like they will.

I would love to open carry but the reaction even though its legal will most likely be scary. We are a shall issue state so getting a pistol permit is not difficult if meet the criteria.

Yeah I'm in the process of getting my CCP I was just wondering about open carry and kind of figured that is what you guys were going to say "is that it is legal but the hippies who run our state don't want it to be" so you will meet with many questions and people who are afraid of guns because they have never been around them.

Thanks guys. Approx. how long did it take start to finish to get your ccp's. If you dont mind me asking.

It really depends on where you apply.

They have up to 30 days to get it to you.

I applied in Seattle at the SPD in downtown and I think it took them pretty close to the 30 days. But that was over 18 years ago so it might be different now. I did renew mine a couple of weeks ago and it only took 10 minutes.

I have heard of some people getting theirs within a week.

I got mime 20 years ago. I think 30 days is standard.renewal is a lot easier. When you get your ccp then head down to the WAC gun show and become a member and look around.
