TRUGLO TFO front sight broke
Hi All,
The fiber optic pin on my front sight fell out at the range the other day. I called TRUGLO and they are going to fix it free of charge. I sent my whole slide to them. Great customer service. XDFB

So would you say TFO sights are delicate, more for match use than concealed carry?

TFO's have held up fine for me
I have TFOs on a 4" & a 5" XD45. I've carried the 4" XD daily in an IWB holster for months without a problem (and I've shot maybe 3 or 4 thousand rounds through it).
During a 10 day period 3 weeks ago I took a 2-day handgun class in Houston and a 3-day class with Clint Smith near Dallas. I used the 5" XD and shot 2,200 rounds and did I-can't-imagine-how-many presentations from (IWB) holster. Again, no problems. Ironically, the rear sight fell off my Ed Brown custom 10mm 1911 last week at the range. Which just shows anything can fall off any gun at any time! -Wayne |

i have the non tritum truglows and they broke. i ended up haveing to rip out and fill in the rear holes and i had to glue the front one back in, they didnt get hit or dropped just didnt handle the recoil. im having a new set of dawsons placed on there and well see if they last longer.

After all the posts on these lately, I talked to a buddy on another site that I know has a pair on his Glock to see how they were holding up. He says he's put several hundred rounds, probably at least 1,000 through it since installing them with no problems. Same with mine, at least 600, more likely 800 rounds through it since installing them, and it is my carry gun, so I don't baby it. They are working just fine.
Like has been said, a few of everything is bound to break, it's just statistics. Same thing with the XD slides rusting. Most of the people had no problems, you just tend to hear about the ones that do. I'm guessing there was a bad batch in there somewhere, or maybe just a few in a particular batch that were bad, and those are the ones that have problems. |

Personally, I prefer the TruGlo non-fiber optic Tritium Brite-Sites to their TFOs - makes for a less "busier" looking slide and they work extremely well in low light - very bright Tritiums at a moderate cost.
Having said that, it is my belief that the Heinie is the best possible sight in terms of durability and ease-of-pick-up for the Glock and XD. I also like the Warren Tactical very much on the Glocks - I wish it was available for the XD. The Heinie and the Warren are sights designed for folks who carry a weapon for a living. They are extremely well-made, no frills sights but very instinctive that do the job and do it well. Fiber optic sights as a general rule are more fragile than conventional tritium or non-tritium metal sights, however breakage is the exception and while they (fiber optics) can be replaced at n/c by the manufactuer should they fail, you may not have the tools readily available to make the swap, and a problem could occur at a not-so-convenient time. I have since replaced all my fiber optic sights with conventional Tritiums (TruGlo, Meprolight, Ameriglo, Heinie, Warren, etc). or in the case of my Sig, I just stuck with the non-Tritiujm factory bar/dots. (they are very good). Just my 2-cents.
