XD45 Compact or 1911?
I currently carry my XD9. However, I am seriously considering obtaining a compact .45 for my carry weapon. I love 1911s--if for no other reason than they are just damned nice looking guns. However, this weapon will be purchased for purely practical purposes--to serve as my full-time CCW. So, the question I put to y'all is this:
Leaving out cost considerations, why would you (or wouldn't you) choose to carry a 1911 over an XD in .45? For example, SA, Kimber, and several other companies make awesome, compact, concealed-carry .45s in 1911. However, the XD45 compact (especially with the 10+1/13+1 option) just screams practicality to me. Is there any reason to select one of the 1911s over the XD??? Thanks for any and all input. |

When the police take your gun in as evidence what would you rather them take? Both weapons do a great job at self defence, 1911 has more accuracy at distance, and the XD has more capacity. Depends which one you like best too.

Miguel Enjoying my XD .45ACP Tactical. need to break in my 870, and my wife's XDSC9. I carry my XD45 ACP Tactical, in a SuperTuck from CB. Very comfortable, easy to hide, easy to draw, and easy to reholster. Looking for an HDR*, either an AR-180B, or Kel-Tec FBR. HDR, Homeland Defense Rifle |

I have a 45 compact XD for carry, and I've been trying to find a reason to buy a 1911 style...but I just can't. The XD provides all I need it to for protection.
I **may** get a SA loaded champion for carry in summer gear. i.e. shorts and shirt. We'll have to see how the compact does... Edit: Take a 9mm bullet and lay it next to a .45. Obeserve the size difference...crazy. That is why I carry a .45 ; ) |

I am glad that someone else has considered this point. I have a wonderful Kimber Tactical Pro II that I only take to the range for my own enjoyment. It's a hell of a gun and would certainly do the job in a self-defense situation, but I'd rather give up my XD45 Compact ($500 value) than my Kimber ($1000 value) to the evidence locker if that day should ever come. We all hope and pray that we never have to defend ourselves with lethal force, of course.

I have to say go with what you believe in, are safe and accurate with. Who cares if they take my Kimber as long as I am alive to have had it taken from me?

1911s I think are more concealable than XDs - which is why I ended up with 1911s for carry. I for one am more than willing to "give up" my high-end 1911s to spend purgatory in evidence locker if it serves its purpose. I would think I would get them back, although it may be awhile. From day to day practicality however, more concealability is a real concern - I don't want to be "made"

I can attest that if you shoot someone in Ohio, then you loose your gun for two years if you are cleared and it is ruled a good shoot. I have an XD40SC as my backup, mostly because of price and that I didn't want another Glock. I love some of these nicer guns, but I'm not willing to part with those. This is why I also will not spend a great deal on my carry weapon, other than good belts, holster, and bullets. No need for fancy sights, grips, shiney finish, etc...

This doesn't help you make a decision though as both the XD and a quality M1911 should be reliable. |

I mean its totaly up to people. Some people would carry 1911, because thats what they are comfortable shooting with, and some people carry XD for the same reason. I LOVE my beretta. but i carryed PA63 for the longest time, because its far more confortable to shoot, and smaller, and lighter. and cheaper(incase my gun gets confiscated for evidence). and i now carry M&P9mm I'm in market for 1911. I would not carry it, because its bulky pieace of iron, but got damn some of them are seriously beautiful piece of iron... |
