Usually the mind will do the centering so you should not sweat the little things (let the force be with you), but it it not doing the task then the 4th point may help. You might try a triangle instead of a diamond, the shape may lend itself to a stronger image to index to.

On my XD40 SC, I blacked out the two dots on the rear sight which helped me a bit. On my SA 1911 with target sights (the rear sight has no dots), I tried some flor. paint which helped as well. My buddy put Dawson fiber optics on the front of his 1911's and I'll probably do this some day.
I like the looks of the XS big dot sites. Still doing research on those. For a poor man's Merit site, try poking a pin hole is some of that white correction tape (with the "sticky note" kind of adhesive) and putting it on your glasses. Goofy but cheap and it will sharpen your focus. WyoBob
