Reassembly question
I searched and browsed looking for some info but didn't find what I was looking for.
I just got an XD45ACP 5" this week. Took it to the range and shot it(and was suitably impressed). Took it home, fieldstripped and cleaned it with no problems. As I was reassembling the slide assembly onto the frame, I lost my grip on the slide and it slammed forward. The slide was on far enough for the sear block to catch the striker(the slide was about halfway retracted), but I hadn't been able to fully retract the slide and lock the disassembly lever down(I was trying to get the slide back to where I could lock it back, but I didn't make it.) I'm not really familiar with the XD line, so is there anything I could have broken? I visually inspected frame and slide, and everything LOOKED ok, and I dryfired it a couple of times, and everything seemed ok, but most of my experience has been with glocks, so I thought I would ask around here and see what the XD talk members thought. |

If you can rack the slide and pull the trigger and it fires ( not really fires but the action release's ) then it is fine. REMEMBER TO DO THIS ONLY AFTER MAKING SURE THAT IT IS UNLOADED AND PREFERABLY AFTER CHECKING AT LEAST TWICE.

What you described shouldn't be a problem. Other than the lever being up it is what normally happens when you fire, so it is all good.

Sorry it's taken awhile to get back, but I've been busy, or at least it has seemed that way.
I didn't really expect that it would be a problem, and it wasn't. I felt the need to ask, since no matter how good a design is, and how well it's implemented(manufactured), you can still screw things up if you operate something in a way it was NOT designed to operate, and I'm pretty sure the sear was NOT designed to catch the unlocked slide like it did, but no problems during test fire. In fact, I like the gun so much, I've bought the XD45ACP Compact also. While it doesn't seem any larger than my Glock 30, if you side by side them, you can tell it's a fraction of an inch longer. Way more comfortable to shoot though. Very nice, now if I can just scrabble together some cash to get some decent holsters, and maybe the 4" Service(just to round things out), or maybe an XD40 or XD40sc. Guess I can look into rasining some money by selling the Glock 30 once I have another 200 or so rounds through the XD45 compact. |
