Wall Safe

Hi all.

I'm a first-time gun owner (settled on an XD9 after shooting everything I could get my hands on) and looking for advice on in-wall safes. I would prefer a biometric safe. I pulled up some past threads but didn't see anything that would attractively mount in a wall. I've done some internet research and found a product called the Wall Vault (www.wall-vault.com). Any one have any experience with this product?

As background, I have young kids in the house and a skittish wife and currently store the pistol at my range. Obviously I didn't buy the pistol for home defense primarily, HOWEVER, I do need to bring it home for cleaning and need a secure place to store it, and when it's home, it only makes sense of course for it to be accessible if I ever needed it. The desire for an in-wall safe is purely aesthetics. If I can't get comfortable with a reliable in-wall, I may go with the Isoteki safe that I've read about in a number of posts.

Thanks!

Hi Dirtlawyer, welcome to the site!

I also enjoy the aesthetics of the wall vault. Thanks for the link.

Biometrically based safes are great for the kids, I would like to have one underneath the bed or mounted on the wall in the closet. Until then of course you can just remove the barrel of your XD if you stash it at the house.

Again welcome!

Hi, I use the person-a-key biometric safe you mount to a surface or leave it "portable. I have three kids and the only reason the wife "lets" me have guns in the house is because of the biometric lock.

My wife bought me the GunVault Multi Deluxe for Christmas. It works great for my purposes.

I have a "ClosetVault" that I use to store the ammo and less expensive guns.
It doesn't have the Biometric lock, but I'm not sure I trust those 100% yet.

I don't own the wall vault yet, but I want it. I have seen it at gun shows and it looks and works quite well. I don't have kids yet, but when I do, I will have one of these for sure.

I have the wall-vault and love it. It is quick to open, easy to install, and has room for a full-size gun and other things like cash, jewelry, passports, etc.

Thanks . . .

for all the feedback.

I think I will give the Wall Vault a try--it's the only way my wife will let the pistol in the house. Can't blame her too much--I was at the opposite end of the second amendment debate when I married her. Just took a while for me to see the light!

Now if I could only figure out a way to get a CCW permit in Maryland . . .

Before you spend a bunch of money on a safe, ask yourself how hard it would be to rip off.

Then watch the "To catch a theif" episode where the guys steal a cops full size rifle safe, that was bolted to the wall. (Along with one of his old shields. He was PISSED)

A safe is a good thing, just go into the purchase educated.

Man...their little video on their website looks like they took it right out of the Anti-Gun handbook! Such as "If you have a gun in your house, a kid will find it and kill themselves or a friend with it." and "Your gun is more likely to be used against you than to stop a threat!"
