Failure to feed

Had my first failure to feed today... twice. I broke the 1000 mark today, and I"ve never had this problem before. Happened first during the initial loading of the gun, so I kept trying w/ that round and it kept getting stuck. So I put it second in line in the mag and everything fed fine. Then the next mag, one in the middle jammed up during the feed, just slingshotted the slide and all was fine, the remaining 50 rds after were just dandy. Any ideas? Gun was clean, used factory Independance ammo. Figured it may have been a strange ammo lot... I dunno. Gun normally runs flawlessly.

.45

Tac model, using the stock spring and and your fat rod. Never had any issues until today. I"m eyeing the feedramp angle thread, some good info there. Any other input would be lovely. THink I might try a heavier spring just for giggles.

Make sure you aren't riding the slide when chambering a round.

Inadvertantly hanging on to the slide as the round chambers...instead, pull the slide back and immediately release it or alternatively trip the slide lock lever...both slingshot the round in with maximum force.

That's what I thought you meant - just wanted to make sure

In my Feed Ramp Angle thread, I posted a reply to your post regarding the same point...

I'll know soon, I've got 500 rounds of CCI Blazer that's asking to be pushed through my barrel...

Since it sounded like it repeated on the same cartridge I would think the cartridge is out of spec. From what I can tell on my XD45 is that the chamber is tight. I had the barrel out the other day and was looking at a semi wadcutter to see where it might catch. It would not headspace on the cartridge lip as the small amount of lead forward of that would wedge into the chamber. I could force it in with my thumb, and then still pull it out by hand, and see the marks on the lead, This is tighter than my Kimber and my Beretta. Ball ammo is no problem, but I don't think I will be able to shoot swc bullets even if I can work out feeding issues.
Do you have any way to measure the actual bad cartridge dimensions?

I wish I did Don. I pick up all my brass when I shoot but it all got tossed in with the rest of my brass pile. I did get the ammo to load after a bit, next time I'll save the load in question and measure it. Could the tightness be a detriment down the road? Thinking like you are and that the cartridge may have been a bit out of spec.
