XD9 Returned from SA

I have posted in many other threads (as responses), on many forums regarding my XD9 ported being sent back to SA for the ubiquitous cracked slide problem (ubiquitous by internet standards, anyway). There is no real way to determine how bad is the problem of cracked slides on ported 9mms ( I understand 40s are no problem).

Anyway, I have not been complaining about the problem, just passing along my experience.

SA has been great about this problem. They told me 3-4 weeks turn-around and it happened (today, exactly 4 weeks). I asked for a non-ported model replacement, and it happened. I fired fifty rounds today with the replacement and no FTEjects as I had had numerous amounts with on the ported model (about 1 every 50 rounds). SA paid shipping to and from in advance.

The weapon is also Melonite finished so (obviously) a much better finish than what I had. The fired cartridge is dated 1-17-07 (US dating).

All in all, a good ending to a not so good experience (thanks to SA).

And, now, I sing their praises. As far as customer service and their lifetime warranty, they are spot on.I read so many posts about other manufacturers' poor service that SA really stands out in that regard

On a side note:

I find this new XD to be the same as my former XD in that it is not as accurate FOR ME as is my Beretta 92FS. Shorter barrel? I don't know. I am not a marksman but I was "out of the box" a better shot with the 92FS than the XD. So much so that I was surprised by my accuracy with the Beretta. (And, in fairness, I was surpirsed with my accuracy with the XD when I first got it [my first pistol]). But in comparison, the 92FS wins.

I will say for those contemplating a ported model:

There is noticeably LESS recoil with the ported model. That said, there would have to be a trade-off in power, too. The universe seeks equilibrium in all things.

In closing, I am a happy SA customer to date (reserved until I have a few more hundred rounds through this XD). Happy, but not die-hard (I am a die-hard 92FS fan). I think the Walther P99 (for a little more) and the Beretta PX4 (for a little less) will equal or better.

Thanks!

woot for SA!
that is one brand spanking new guy i bet you can still smell the last guy that worked on it lol
your accuracy problem could be due to the difference in grip angle from the beretta and the xd you probally are just not use to it
good luck and happy shooting

I am glad to hear you got everything resolved. As far as the ported issue, I've never understood the reasoning for that on the 9mm. It has such little recoil as is. To each his own. I think you will find your replacement to be a great gun.

As far as accuracy -I had trouble at first, thinking my gun was just shooting left. I was transitioning from a Hi-power with a nice SA trigger. Come to find out, as most do, that it was me learning to shoot the XD's trigger. The gun itself was dead on when I slowed down and did everything perfect. Now it is not an issue. Just time and experience corrected me. Nothing needed for the gun!

I dig the ported 9. It not only kicks less but the recoil impluse is much different, very snappy. I ran some rounds over the chrono one day and based on the same rounds out of another similar sized gun, I was losing perhaps 35-50 fps on a handloaded round that was running around 1200 fps.

I bought a V10 at the same time a buddy did.. his cracked, mine has been shot a bunch and no crack.. who knows why..

He sent his V10 in and asked for a tactical 9 in replacement and they sent it.. and they took the SpringerPrecision parts out of the V10 and returned them along with the new gun. So.. he now has 'spare' parts that I can't buy!

I listen to anyone who can use ubiquitous and equilibrium in the same post intelligently and without misspelling either one. Wow!

I am going to try that. Just slow down, brace myself and see what it does.
