Given the forces involved, not holding it tightly enough would allow all the recoil force to be exerted in the hand (muzzle flip), and not the slide. It won't pull the slide back far enough, hard enough, to eject the round.
Myself, I had that happen once during the first 13 rounds. I was using Zero, I THINK 115gr JHP. After coming here and asking about it, I'e paid more attention to my grip, and making sure to exert more force with my pinky/ring/middle fingers and I've not had it happen again - I've had 137 rounds since then, which doesn't sound like much... For me, I had carpal tunnel surgery on my right (trigger) in November, and my left was done just a few weeks ago (Jan 1 She should be holding the grip of it as TIGHT as she possibly can. Tremors are OK - just keep the sights lined up. Don't use cup+saucer as well... Last edited by kannibul; 02-01-2007 at 09:25 PM. |

My opinion is that all women limp wrist unless someone teaches them correctly it's just part of their nature. They do the same thing with golf clubs or a baseball bat. To be honest many men who are unfamiliar with handguns will limp wrist until taught better.

Also watch to see that she is not riding the slide with her weak hand thumb.

I have been beat up on another forum or this but peoples lives are to important to mess with. The XD has been poor over all when it comes to reliabilty. I know many of you have good guns and some have many good ones. But remember I teach at a professional school 70 plus days a year and see a a lot of XD's that do not work well or completely die. I see guide rod come apart and lock the gun tight. Way to many feeding problems many because of poor magazines. They are to soft and dent easy and the front of the springs are to weak and do not get the nose of the bullet back up fast enough and bury it into the feed ramp. Also I see quite a few extractor failures.
Sorry guys but the quality control is not up to snuff. I have 3 XD's and used to carry one. But after seeing what I have. Untill I see and big change I won't carry one for real. If you do try these things. 1) keep a close eye on your magazines. Keep them clean and dent free. 2) get rid of the multi piece guide rod and buy a one piece one. 3) buy another extractor and know how to change it. 4) get you feed ramp re-worked. Make sure it is free of tooling marks and is polished like a mirror. Also remember before you try to hang me. I have no reason to boost one gun over another I build guns from many manufactures and none of them give me anything for it. What i tell you is from real world experience and seeing it. I like the XD's feel but it needs better quality control. If you have good one great, but don't be suprised if your does not work. I see alot of those to. Before you carry it shoot it alot and use my check list above. If yours does not work get it back to Springfield they have done well at taking care a problems. CHECK 360 David Bowie

My xd9 service would not shoot WWB in any form. But it would shoot remington and blazer brass and hydrashoks perfectly.

I wouldn't carry any gun until I had put a crapload of rounds through it of many types and brands. Just not smart at all, no matter what name is stamped on the slide, they all make a crappy one here and there.
My XD Sub .40 has had several thousand rounds through it. Not a single malfunction. and I have tried to limp wrist it and get it to fail, nothing doing. If the problem continues, talk to SA, they seem to have been more than happy to rework/replace anyones gun who had an issue.
