9mm 16 round magazine holds 17 rounds?

I was not counting and loaded my 16 round magazine and then when full, glanced at my box of 50 cartridges. There were 17 missing! I looked all around with no luck in finding it, I then unloaded my 16 round magazine to count and there were 17 rounds in it. I didn't have to push any harder on the 17th than the 16th.

Is this a common "problem?" Anyone heard of this before? The magazine has no identifiying marks that I can find except on the bottom, "Springfield Armory 9MM 16rd".

ive loaded some older browning hi-power mags with 14 rounds before years ago when i owned one and the mag was only supposed to 13 rounds with the 14 round in the mag though the mag would not seat in the gun unless the slide was pulled back.

I just loaded 13 into one of my 12 round .40 mags with no problem. When they get "broke in" you can do this. I tried it with a newer mag and was next to impossible. Keep shooting and don't worry about it.

I actually thought it was cool. If I get another one to do this, I can load a 50 round box into 4 mags.

Glock specifically warns against overloading mags, due to the probability of ruining the mag springs. I'm sure the same principle would apply to XD mags.

I would just load per the manual specs. Then you don't have to worry about possible spring damage, or voiding any warranties from the manufacturer.

Ciao,
