What To Buy Xd Or Kahr ???

HOWDY
I am new to this board and have a question
I have just received my Texas concealed handgun permit and I am looking for a personal firearm. I think I have narrowed it down to two choices one being the XD40 Sub Compact and the other one being the Kahr CW40.
This gun will be concealed so I want something with a small footprint, lightweight, reliable and easy to operate. I will not use firearm as a "hobbie" but only for personal protection.
Does anyone out there own BOTH of these and what is your opinion of them both +'s and -'s
Any and all other suggestions are appricated.

Chuck

I have a cw9 that is one of my carry guns. It is a great gun except you can't update the sights on them. They have a permanent front sight. I found that the trigger is hard to adjust too, it is quite a bit different. I don't think the Kahr CW series is any better than the XD, but that is my opinion. It is slimmer, but I think the XD is a better and has more bells and whistles that you can add to it. The Kahr CW is cheaper than the XD too. I paid $419 for the CW9.

I've also got a CW9. With my build I just can't hide the thickness of my XD. I love my XD....everytime I shoot it I'm reminded why I got it....accurate, great feel, 100% reliable....just can't hide it.

Yes, the trigger of a Kahr will take getting used to....it's DA. I've never shot anything DA before so I know it will take hundreds or rounds to get used to. But, I can hide it while wearing a pair of running shorts & a t-shirt. It too is accurate, reliable & has great feel. It does seem to need a lot more lubrication than the XD, that may change with more rounds through it.

You CAN change the sights...it will require having a dovetail cut for a new front sight...like the P9 has. There are a lot of other "enhancements" that can be done to it also...check Cylinder & Slide for what Bill can do. I handled a P9 at SHOT show that he had worked on......WOW.

again i say, call around and test each out, the gun store will probably even let you try on a holster or two, and see which you prefer and might like to carry.
a gun is a very personal purchase. as are holsters. when/if you go check the guns out, wear what you would "normally" wear. in texas.. that'd likely be shorts and a tee shirt lol.

imo though, nothing hides as well as a small 38 revolver

cheers

Be sure you fire it before you buy the CW40. It is not fun to shoot!

Not looking for something "fun" to shoot. Looking for a concealed gun that is reliable and small footprint.

Understand...but if you are going to carry a gun, you need to practice with it. Not only is the CW40 not fun to shoot, it can be downright painful.

DA = double action trigger means two operations are done when you pull the trigger... basically the pull on the trigger will be heavier on the CW40 than on the xd plus the XD has a great aftermarket community with decent upgrades etc....
