Yeah, I certainly think that the technology is neat but there was something that made me a little uneasy about my prints being up loaded into the database. LOL

My comment is a generalization based on discussions with just a few departments. You are correct; I am sure that the majority do prefer the LiveScan.

You didn't think that the FBI examined them on paper with a magnifying glass did you?

Texas still uses ink if you want a CHL.

In Texas you actually have the option for using electronic prints, and I opted for that method to speed delivery of my CHL and to minimize any chances for my prints to be rejected. In the near future they will probably roll out the service to more areas, but there has been a lot more info on the service in the last year.

WV CCW didn't require fingerprinting...

Just take the safety course, bring your Afidavit stating you had the class and $75 along with your filled out application and copy of drivers licence. Mine took 5 business days to come in. Went in with another $15 pickup fee and drivers licence to verify I was who I was.

No messy ink, no scanners. ^-^;

I don't have anything to hide, but I wasn't thrilled with the fingerprint requirement. Among the people who actually apply, I doubt the fingerprints catch anything the background check doesn't. People who do pass the background check have historically shown that they are responsible law-abiding folk before and after they can legally carry a concealed gun. (Out of the hundreds of thousands (millions?) of permit holders, you can bet your bottom dollar that you will hear about those who are negligent with their firearm or even commit a violent crime.) So, the fingerprinting seems to be a waste of time/resources and an unnecessary intrusion. Besides, somebody with a record, or want to carry because they want to commit crimes, won't ever apply anyway due to the background check.

I almost suspect the Fingerprint scan is more for "Keeping your prints on record and in the system" than anything else. If someone gets shot and a fingerprint is found, they have something to compare to and see if it's you.

At least that's my govt. conspiracy theory for the day.
