XD40 to 9MM, what do I need?
I've been thinking about getting a 9mm Conversion Barrel for my XD40. My reasoning behind this is that I'm getting an XD45, which will be my carry weapon. My wife doesn't really like the 40 round, she's more comfortable with the 9mm, so I thought I could let her use my XD40 with the conversion barrel. So if I decide to go this route what else to I need to get for the XD40 to work good as a 9mm besides Mags & the conversion barrel.

also i would suggest getting some 9mm mags label them somehoe so you dont mix them up and put in a mag of 40 with a 9mm barrel or vise versa.

Go with our forum sponsor Scott, Old School, at PistolGear.com, he's out of the bbl right now but he gets them in pretty frequently, and he's also got the mags, unfortunately they're out of stock right now too.

Some have experienced extraction problems, some have had feed problems. As long as your using factory loads with the 9mm mags and factory guide rod, or Don's with the 18# spring, you'll probably have pretty good luck. I've used non-modified 40 mags and at times had no problems at all, other times I'd get failure to chamber problems from the 9 sitting so high in the lips, the round would miss the chamber on the feed and look like a stovepipe failure, but be a live round. ajames at his site shows how to modify 40 mags to get decent results. http://www.xd-hs2000.com/images/submag2small.jpg . I've also had good luck with the 22# and 20# spring with DGR, but it seemed sometimes the WWB was weak and didn't cycle the slide very well. The Blazer Brass seemed a little stronger and more accurate for me using those springs. Very light recoil was helpful in shooting pins, follow ups were quick too.

I may be way off here, but I think XD's retain their value. Wouldn't you be better off, and more cost effective to sell the 40. Take the money from the 40 and the money you are going to spend on the conversion barrell, and just buy a 9.
I'm not an advocate of selling guns, but what's the sence of a 40 sitting around, while you are shooting a 45 and the wife a 9?
